Yeah, I know, I haven't posted lately. Not even about wildlifing, though not because I haven't been doing any because I have. Maybe not as much as in previous years, but the autumn migration is now in full swing and my bins are firmly on as soon as I clock off from work ( Read more... )

That's certainly a bird I've never seen. I'll have to remember that eyestripe.

Unfortunately lots of birds have an eyestripe. Or a supercilium, if you feel like being technical/nerdy. Eyestripes are like white rumps, they crop up all over the place.

Finding the unexpected is, for me, an essential component of birding. Not that I'm against going to see birds other people have found, it's often the only way to see them at all. But finding them for yourself...

As you allude, there is a broader parallel to be drawn with life as a whole.
