I was elected treasurer of our graduate geography project in the department on thursday. I ran against no one and was elected within 20 seconds instead of 10 because I tried to get someone to tell me what I might be responsible for. It wasn't a surprise because all the officers were already chosen before the meeting; this is how our democracy works
