What's your favourite way of telling someone it would be unwise to offend that they are, in fact, an idiot?

Well, it depends I suppose. Do you think that this person is in general an idiot at all times or just doing something idiotic. With the latter, perhaps you could gently suggest that he/she rethinks what s/he is doing.

And don't worry, you won't offend me, you can tell me I'm an idiot. I can take it!

Well, I don't know whether they're an idiot in general or not, but I do know that they've managed to display an impressive level of incompetence in the few interactions we've had. The number of interactions would be far fewer had they done the job right the first time, or even the second time after I pointed out what they'd done wrong. *sigh*

I actually don't think you're particularly dimwitted, the occassional inability to assemble IKEA furniture notwithstanding :p

Oh, I don't know. There have been numerous lifestyle choices that would qualify me as being an idiot. Also, that last sentence: the wording isn't working somehow.

Not sure how to help with the other one. I'm guess it's someone at work, in which case, you may have to resign yourself that you work with an idiot, if not more. What I can tell you is that putting up a poster of the kid from the Sixth Sense featuring his thing about seeing dead people, but changing "dead" to "dumb," and posting it in your cubicle will not go over well. I do not know this from personal experience, per se, but I have witnessed the repercussions.

Ah, well, we all make questionable decisions from time to time. To live is to gamble, and sometimes when you gamble, you lose.

Nope, not work. I count myself fortunate in the generally low levels of stupidity I have to deal with firsthand there. The person in question is on the other end of a communal email address, and there appears to have been a change of personnel, which explains a lot, because the person I'm used to dealing with seemed to know what they were doing.

Nice idea, though I wouldn't have anywhere to put a poster, unless it was a really small one :)
