Seattle side part 4
Wednesday, April 28, 2077
Vladimir has been in the hospital for a week. He comes back out feeling lots of better. The wreckage from the bombed building is cleared and being rebuilt. There have been no gnawed upon bodies, or any sign of other surviving ghouls, or the woman who seemed to be commanding them.
Vladimir, Ophelia and Hepseba get commlinks for themselves. Vladimir sets up an enchanting lodge in the back of his store.
While out on the street, Buck is stopped by a troll woman and her “pet” dwarf. She propositions Buck, and introduces herself as Bitch Pudding. She tells Buck that she wants to open a brothel in the area, and she wants Buck to run the house for her. Buck says she needs to talk with her boss. Bitch Pudding gives Buck a card, then sashays away, taking Eustace the dwarf to heel.
Buck goes back to Vladimir’s shop and explains the brothel idea. Vladimir tells Buck she can do whatever she wants. Buck calls Bitch Pudding, and takes the job. Bitch Pudding tells Buck she will let her know when they find a house.
Buck gets another call from Schlong, her fixer, letting her know about a job. The job would be considered as one of the favors Buck owns, and there may even be some pay involved. He gives Buck the address of Basil’s Faulty Bar in Tacoma and says to be there by 7.
Buck goes to get help from Ophelia, Hepseba and Vladimir. They agrees upon the premise of money. And they all go to the bar.
Basil’s is dark and gritty, and they meet a man sitting in the shadows with an ork mercenary. The man introduces himself as Mr. Lynch, and states there are two jobs in one.
There is a young man working for a small company called Serano. He’s a Russian technomancer (from Arkhangelsk) by the name of Boris Visilovich and lives in the company dorms, room 83 in the southeast corner. He wants to be extracted. As luck would have it, there is a painting in Serano’s possession, of a naked fat man sitting cross legged reaching out, which Lynch also requires. Both the sooner the better. He will 10k nuyen if we all survive.
Serano rents 37th floor of the Genomics building. Building security provided by Knight-Errant, while Serano utilizes the services of a smaller company called the Red Commandos. Lynch offers them use of the orc, Thorg, as more muscle.
Vladimir asks if the painting is needed in whole, or if they can remove it from the frame for easier carrying. Lynch just needs the canvas. He leaves the gang with Thorg and heads out. Thorg explains his loyalty is to Mr. Lynch and, his relationship to the group is strictly professional. Vladimir agrees.
Vladimir asks Ophelia to do some astral recon on the building. She curls up on Hepsebas lap and proceeds astrally to the building.
Vladimir and Thorg discuss weapons and a strategy for taking care of business. Buck searches the Matrix to get blue prints of the Genomics building.
During her astral trip, Ophelia notices that 15 of the floors are warded, including floors 36 and 38. Both the techomancer and the painting are on floor 37.
The gang discusses their plan. Thorg goes to get weapons, Vladimir goes to get uniforms, Ophelia goes to get party girl clothing for her and Buck.
Once they are all together they make their way to Genomics in two separate cars. Buck and Ophelia make their way into the building first. They ask the at the information desk about a retirement party for one of the other companies in the building. The guard tells them to go to floor 28. Buck and Ophelia discuss getting off on floor 27 and walk up the stairs to floor 28.
On 27, they are greeted by a waiter with glasses of champagne. Buck takes one and chugs it down, while Ophelia sips at hers and they wander to the stairs.
Meanwhile Vlad, Hepseba, and Thorg go in next and make their way up to floor 37, under the guise of a pickup and delivery crew with their escort.
The elevator stops at 28 where they meet Buck and Ophelia. Buck hacks in to find the painting and notices that there is a program looking at her and jacks out ASAP.
When the elevator door opens on floor 37, they notice a dwarven security guard. Vladimir starts talking animatedly in Russian and the guard asks if Vladimir knows English. Hoping to distract him further, Hepseba lifts up her shirt, flashing her goods at the stunned dwarf.
Buck and Ophelia start to sneak past, edging towards the door into Serano, but the guard stops them. He then tells Hepseba to cover herself.
Buck and Ophelia start asking for the bathroom, and the guard finally lets them in as Buck starts yelling about impending diarrhea. The guard, reaching his wit’s end, lets Vladimir, Hepseba and Thorg go in to Boris, who they claim must sign for their delivery of expensive computer chips. As they go through the door, Vladimir notices the Guard picks up a hand set to make a call.
Ophelia and Buck look for the painting. Vladimir and Hepseba and Thorg go for Boris. Buck and Ophelia check out the employee lounge. No painting. Vlad and gang go to Boris's room and it’s locked. Vlad asks Buck to unlock the door, which she does, easily enough. The door opens and the room inside is Spartan, with a mostly empty bookshelf, a hammock, and someone in the hammock.
Buck sends his drone eye flying down hallways to look for the painting. Vladimir shakes the hammock, but Boris didn’t move. Vladimir has Hepseba carry the unconscious technomancer.
Buck’s eye finds the painting at a central guard station, manned by one of the Red Commandos in their signature armor, backed up by a Steel Lynx combat drone.
Vladimir sends Thorg down an interior elevator with Boris, with the idea to meet up at the local Starbucks. Meanwhile, he and Hepseba go back to help Buck and Ophelia go get the painting.
Ophelia tries to distract the Commando, but no such luck. Her charms do not sway him from his duty. Buck casts swarm on the guard. He shifts in his armor uncomfortably, but fights through the distracting itch. Trying a different tactic, Buck pulls the fire alarm.
People slowly shuffle out of their dorm rooms and offices. The Commando takes painting down and starts to place in an armored carrying case. The Steel Lynx actives, coming out of its berth while the Commando straps the painting to his back.
Buck tries to hack the Lynx while Vlad tosses one of his electrically enchanted daggers at the guard. Buck fails, and the drone notices its being hacked. Vlad’s dagger hits and gives the Commando a healthy jolt.
The guard opens fire on Hepseba with his Ares HVAR, and wounds her. Hepseba fires her Krime Kannon at the Commando, punching through his armor and taking him down.
Vladimir throws a physical barrier spell up around the drone. Buck casts improved reflexes on Hepseba. Ophelia heals Hepseba, while the Lynx opens fire on Hepseba and misses, as the barrier slightly deflects the rounds.
Hepseba fires and hits, causing a shower of sparks from the Steel Lynx. The troll and the drone exchange more gunfire, but only deal damage to the walls and floor.
Buck casts chaos on the Lynx, confusing its sensors. Vladimir and Ophelia go to get the painting off the body, while Hepseba misses the drone with another shot.
The drone returns fires and puts a few holes in Hepseba’s hide. Buck drops the improved reflex on her and casts armor instead. Hepseba fires once more and finally puts the Steel Lynx down.
Helping her sister, the troll breaks open the case. Vlad and Ophelia extract the painting from its frames they slip it into a carrying tube.
While retrieving his enchanted dagger, Vladimir notices the Commando’s back-up coming at them.
Discretion being the better part of valor, they all exit via the back stair well. Buck conjures a stream of acid, directing it at the door, damaging the lock and interior mechanisms. Vlad casts barrier on the door to bolster it against breaking through and maintains it for a few minutes while they all leave as quickly as possible.
Once at the bottom of the stairs they make their way to the car and drive off. En route, Hepseba notices they are being followed by a surveillance drone. Buck tries to hack the drone and succeeds, sending it crashing into a building. They drive around for a few more minutes to ensure there are no other tails.
They rendezvous at Starbucks. Thorg has the gang follow him to meet Lynch, and they end up meeting up at a mall parking lot. He gives everyone the promised 10k.
