♛ CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: The (Tenth) Doctor
Series: Doctor Who
Ability: The Doctor hails from a futuristic time period-- a very advanced era that has supplied him with a variety of time-related technologies. The most advanced of these is the Doctor’s vehicle-- a box-shaped machine known as the TARDIS (which he keeps somewhere in the school, hidden in plain sight) which enables nearly unrestricted travel through space and time. Since taking up his teaching position, the Doctor has strictly limited the TARDIS to emergency usage only (though he does like to pay it visits every now and then). He also keeps one other example of such technology-- a small handheld device called a “sonic screwdriver”, a multipurpose gadget. It enables him to be somewhat of a technopath, able to alter the settings of and hack into computer systems with the touch of a button. It also has some effect over other mechanisms such as locks (he can unlock a door from the outside with it, for instance), but has no effect on organic subjects.
The Doctor cannot travel through or manipulate time without using the TARDIS, and likewise cannot manipulate mechanisms without use of the sonic screwdriver. Instead, his main power seems to lie in his mental ability. A telepath, he is able to establish links between minds, able to read thoughts and search memories, as well as provide his own to anyone he wishes. In the same vein, he is able to delete select memories. These powers are limited in that the Doctor can only establish links in person, and only when within close proximity to his subject (whenever he uses it in canon, he usually starts the process by putting his forehead against another’s). Either way, the Doctor will only use his mental abilities if he believes them to be absolutely necessary.

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Tenth_DoctorHistory: The Doctor’s background is just as mysterious as he is. He claims that he does not know where he comes from, but he is certain that his family is deceased. Despite his obvious El accent, he does not ever say that he comes from particularly anywhere, answering when pestered that he comes from “somewhere out there” or “pretty much everywhere”. He is, however, open to describing his homeland by small memories (i.e. “the sky is orange” and “there were silver trees”), though he never provides its exact location or name. For all anyone knows, he may not remember the exacts himself. One thing is known: the Doctor is not from present day, and has in fact travelled back in time from some distant future. Wherever his home is, it does not exist in the current time period.
As long as he can remember, the Doctor has been traveling, either through the cities and towns of the world, or through time itself in his TARDIS. He originally spent his nomadic time searching out people in need of help and providing his services and knowledge. Through these journeys, he gained a seemingly infinite knowledge of the world, how it works, and the place that living creatures have in it, as well as great empathy. He has become timeless in a way, unable to pinpoint his exact origins and age.
Throughout his journeys, he had many companions, all of which eventually left him. Some chose to leave for their own reasons, others were forced away by the Doctor... and a few were killed during the perilous adventures. The combination of all these losses has left the Doctor in a state of loneliness he seeks to repair.
Upon a certain journey, the Doctor’s TARDIS landed in the Floating Island by chance, where he learned more of the affects the atmosphere was having on residents, including the strange abilities they began to show. He was fascinated by it, and stayed for a time, studying the residents and qualities of the air. Eventually, a courier finally arrived to invite the Doctor to Estrasia as faculty (they apparently had been planning on it, but he's a bit of a hard man to track down).
Personality: The Doctor is an enigma of sorts. By the logic of TARDIS travel, he is timeless, and has possibly lived for technical thousands of years. To say he has a good amount of experience is an understatement. He has massive amounts of knowledge, and his intelligence is nearly inhuman. He is a professional at quick thinking, considering the dangers he’s had to find clever ways to evade, and is very adaptable to even the most bizarre of situations. The Doctor thinks he knows and has seen everything (and often seems to). So, if something is just a touch out of the ordinary, something is different, you can bet he is going to investigate it. He’s curious and driven by intrigue-- so much so that he sometimes puts himself at risk just to check that interesting thing out (because, more often than not, that “interesting thing” turns out to be some sort of angry beast, vengeance-seeking alien fleet, bloodthirsty creature, etc.).
With all that experience he’s had, the Doctor has also had to deal with a great amount of loss. He holds an unfathomable amount of grief and guilt for those he could not save and those that he has left behind. He has destroyed worlds and wiped out entire species. His power is well-known and revered by many across the world (and, possibly, beyond), and danger seems to follow him wherever he goes. There is a part of him that is darker, containing all that grief and rage. A constant traveler, the Doctor also tends to get very lonely at times, and craves camaraderie. Without companions, he seems to lose sense of his morals, and can become ruthless when angry.
Despite this, the Doctor’s disposition seems to betray his “Oncoming Storm”, “Destroyer of Worlds” reputation. He is consistently upbeat and lively in conversation and mannerisms, and seems to very much enjoy talking, judging by the way he can rattle on ceaselessly about whatever intrigues him. He is prone to drag on about subjects and often launches into outrageous technobabble in the middle of an average conversation. He tends to go off on tangents, interrupt himself, and place nonsensical, silly terms to describe certain things (i.e.: “wibbly-wobbly ball of timey-wimey stuff”, “it goes ding when there’s stuff”). Generally, he’s charismatic and full of enthusiasm, hiding that darker side of himself. A large part of him is also compassionate, and he can form strong bonds with people relatively quickly. He cares deeply for people, and will try to forge friendships with anyone that seems open enough. Often, what prompts that powerful rage in him are the times when the ones he cares for are in danger, or when innocents have been harmed.
On another note, considering all those species he’s destroyed for the sake of justice, the Doctor believes in second chances. No matter how horrendous the crime, the criminal will always be given another chance-- but that chance only.
♜ SAMPLES
Third Person Sample: The Doctor found it surprisingly easy to adjust back into the life of a teacher. He hadn’t been at for long before, and his absences sadly outweighed his attendance-- so much so that he’d had to resign. He was glad that readjusting was so simple. Maybe he was just a natural? He’d like to think so, though he was apparently the type of teacher a student would either love or love to hate.
Standing before rows of slack-jawed morning students, just as he always did, the Doctor quickly jotted the day’s subject onto a whiteboard in big black letters: Centra. Then, he placed his hands into his pockets and set to pacing back and forth before the board.
“Centra,” he started, nodding to himself. “Centra, Centra... Centra.” He glanced up, scanning the rows of students with his eyes. “Centra!” A handful of students flinched slightly at his outburst. Others, unfazed, averted their eyes to below their desks, typing messages on communicators hidden in their laps. The Doctor abruptly ceased his pacing.
“Oi!” he snapped. “Here I am, trying to teach you all a very important lesson you won’t learn anywhere else, and you’re all busy... texting! Get some perspective, will you?”
The students glanced back up, and the Doctor nodded. “There you go-- let’s see those bright eyes, now.” He paused, making sure all eyes were on him. “There you are. That’s better. Now, don’t let me catch you doing that again. Oh, and I do hope you’re taking notes on this. Don’t make me give you all a pop quiz!” A few students snickered.
It seemed that the majority of the class was now back at full attention. At least, as at attention as a morning class could be. Satisfied, the Doctor retrieved the pen with a smile, and returned to the board, beginning to jot down further notes around the “Centra” label.
“Now, any old history book could tell you that Centra’s ancient human civilizations worshipped desert gods. Moreover, cannibalistic desert gods. People gave them sacrifices out of terror of being eaten themselves! Because, really, have you ever tried eating a god? Even if you’re an all-powerful being yourself, it's got to be pretty tough. But you know what's tender and easy to find? Humans!”
Now that got some more attention. “Yes, but now... What those books wouldn’t tell you is why exactly they believed so strongly that they’d be eaten. Those fears were based in truth, you know.”
He would know. He was there, after all. “Now, here’s how it happened-- Oi, what did I say about notes? I want to see those pencils moving!”
First Person Sample: [When the video feed first comes to life, it is transmitting nothing more than a high-pitched buzzing sound and a very bright blue light. Try not to look directly at it, kids!]
Hold on-- Ah, now there we go! [The light fades out and reveals a somewhat raggedy-looking Doctor. He pockets the source of the light-- a long silver device-- and grins cheerfully into the screen. The video is being broadcasted in surprising clarity.] Sorry about that! I always thought these little talkie devices were brilliant, but this old thing had a bit of a static problem. And I can’t have that! Now it’s right as rain, eh? Good as new, if I do say so myself!
[He smiles broadly at the communicator for a moment, but soon begins to frown, brow furrowed and eyes wandering.] What was I...? [His eyes suddenly widen, and he turns back to the screen with a renewed smile.] Oh, yes! Right!
Hullo! I’m the Doctor. For those of you that don’t know me-- and those that do, I s’pose-- I’ll be your new Civilizations professor! ... Well, not new exactly-- I’ve been here before, but it was a bit of a different class and felt like lifetimes ago... Might as well be new now, yeah?
Again, that’s the Doctor. Not Doctor so-and-so, not Professor Doctor-- as catchy as that sounds-- just the Doctor. For those of you I haven’t met quite yet, I do look forward to doing so!
