This doesn't make a lot of sense to me... I feel like it would have been better to donate the money to that cause instead of giving it to people for a job others would do for free.

I have though. Much. But the auction was put up to raise money for the DTD frat and I couldn't leave them wanting either. Besides, the folks at the nursing home would rather see smiling faces and people to talk to than to know their own offspring has paid them off for another year for someone else to take care of them. So it's a nice trade off, don't you think?
