I am thinking about refinishing a dresser that has come into my posstion. It currently has a black lacquer finish. I want to know if there are any products that will take off a lacquer finish?
Lacquer is a little bitch, you will need chemicals, at least for parts.
For the flat sections, get or borrow a decent random orbital sander and some papers (starting at about 100 grit to get the bulk off, down to about 400 for that nice smooth finish).
For detaily sections, you will need a chemical stripper and some scrapers/brushes. Zip Strip will remove ANYTHING, possibly including your sanity. Seriously, they say use it only in a well-ventilated area and they mean it. Be careful, lest The Crazies set in. Also, if you're using Zip Strip, BUY CHEMICAL GLOVES
