i had my appointment yesterday with the dr. i have gestational diabetes. i could have been told 2 weeks ago, but they apparently didn't feel it was important enough to tell me then, so they waited until yesterday. so yeah..awesome, huh? i have 3 appointments next week, tuesday with the diabetes educator, thursday with the dietitian and friday with ( Read more... )

My wife had gestational diabetes with our daughter (controlled with diet) and son (required temporary hospitalizations and insulin). It constitutes a risk factor, to some degree (in her case), but twenty one years later she is fine and not diabetic. She does eat well, however, unlike me.

It's not really that bad. At Bank of America, I had a coworker with diabetes and his diet wasn't horrible. (He just had to cut out soda... and he'd been drinking a case of soda a day for several years at that point, so that was a little tough for him.)

Drinking 7 cases of soda a week every week must have been expensive.

Anyway, it really doesn't seem that bad. The only thing that'd annoy me is you have to cut back on fruit because of all the natural sugar in it. (I really like bananas, myself. Don't really care for any other kind, except for some grapes or strawberries once in a while.)
