What solemn morn does wake me! And see, here two birds sit by my window, flown there with the pale dawn. I wonder if their night's dreaming has been each of the other, as such dreams haunt my sleep of dearest Romeo. Oft his face I see, clear and lit by sun's sweet kiss. And oft yet do I see only a darkness, death's own vile hovel made hearth for love.

The sun was bright and warm, as it seemed always to be in Verona Beach, but Juliet didn't notice the sun, nor the blue sky with its white clouds, nor the colorful crowds of people. Her mind was focused on the image of her betrothed's face, as it had appeared the last she saw him, and as she imagined it would appear now as he waited impatiently for her.
