What solemn morn does wake me! And see, here two birds sit by my window, flown there with the pale dawn. I wonder if their night's dreaming has been each of the other, as such dreams haunt my sleep of dearest Romeo. Oft his face I see, clear and lit by sun's sweet kiss. And oft yet do I see only a darkness, death's own vile hovel made hearth for love.

Give my ears a tale, fair City, that gladness may yet banish my despair.

The sun was bright and warm, as it seemed always to be in Verona Beach, but Juliet didn't notice the sun, nor the blue sky with its white clouds, nor the colorful crowds of people. Her mind was focused on the image of her betrothed's face, as it had appeared the last she saw him, and as she imagined it would appear now as he waited impatiently for her. Father Laurence would be there, perhaps one of Romeo's cousins to bear witness, if one existed who was willing to accept the union of a Montague and a Capulet.

Wherefore art thou, Romeo? she mused with a secretive smile, whispering the words that had come to her that night, when she had discovered that newly-blossomed love carried an enemy's name. But just as easy to say, Wherefore are thou, Juliet? Married will I be, and marriage makes me not Capulet, not enemy sworn, but lover and kin and wife.A brighter smile emerged at that title, one that she'd have just as happily brushed aside not so many days ago, but one she now longed for.
