This mix is based on the cheap, pulpy sci-fi novels that make up the majority of the genre. Basically, there's usually a scrappy hero/heroine, a misunderstood alien, the destruction of the earth, and very cheesy, unbelievable plots- always while hurtling through space on some ship that defies all laws of physics. This mix is crack, and it's not meant to be serious in any way. These kind of novels made me very, very happy, and very, very hopeful during what was not the most ideal childhood, so they hold a very special place in my heart, even though I can fully see how really, truly ridiculous they are. It seemed like pop was the only possible kind of music to fit these books.
