http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Suikoden_I_characters Personality: Gremio is very much like an overbearing parent when it comes to Tir. He's even said that Tir is like a little brother or even son to him. Gremio even goes so far as to sacrifice himself to save Tirs life. Gremio always shows concern for Tir's well being, and defends him in battle, as well as sheltering him in general life.
Gremio is very kind, and very honest. He would never dream of lying or making false claims. He's also very polite and rather formal in speech. Though he has various soft traits he is still a skilled and practiced warrior. He is not the best fighter out there, but he is by no means the worse. Due to his history with military he is savvy when it comes to procedure and tactics, though he tends to stick to the ideals rather than the realities. Regardless of this though, he will always follow Tir's decision no matter what it is.
What your character can offer: Gremio is an amazing cook, one of his best recipes is that of his stew. His loyalty could also be seen as a special skill, it takes a special kind of person to follow someone and put their trust in them so completely. Gremio is also a skilled warrior and proficient with an axe. Though he mostly retired from combat, until Tir joined the Imperial army and then joined the Liberation army. During his down time he did lots of domestic things which he thrived with.
What items will they be bringing with them? His clothes, his axe as well as a few supplies, the kind one would have with them on a journey that might take several days. He will also have with him one rune, and some money.
Third-Person Sample: Tir was growing up, this was a fact that Gremio could not ignore. He was the leader of an army, the hope of the people. He was not a little boy anymore. Yet, even if Gremio understood these things he could not let go. Even if Tir did not need him to protect him like he used to, these were things Gremio could not think of ever stopping. Was this the feeling of a parent when their child was all grown up?
He tried to push these thoughts out of mind, he needed to sleep. They were all going to get up early and see the progress on the boat. They needed to cross those rapids no matter what, they needed to find a cure for the poison flowers. With these thoughts and feelings Gremio slowly drifted to sleep.
The next thing he knew upon waking was that he was no longer in the inn. The second thing was that Tir was not with him anymore. Or, perhaps he realized both simultaneously. Quickly upon those realizations he got to his feet and glanced around at his surroundings. They were hard to understand, they were like nothing he was familiar with. It looked like he was in a vast stone city, yet a city larger than even the capital, and buildings taller than a castle! Where was he? For this was nowhere in the empire!
"Am I dreaming? I must be, there is no way this could not be a dream," he spoke to himself trying to work out what was going on.
He shifted a bit to walk forward towards a store front when a strange item fell. Gremio bent down to pick it up, it was another thing unfamiliar, though it did have a note on it. Use it? How was he to use it, what was it even fore? He started poking at the various buttons trying to figure out what it was suppose to do.
First-Person Sample: [Voice]
[There is the sound of fumbling as someone is obviously handling the comm device. There are soft sounds of confusion accompanied with a string of random letters in text]

[Voice]
I see, I push these symbols and letters appear. What an amazing device! Though, what could it be fore. Maybe it's for record keeping....
[The voice trails off as the person speaking, a man by sounds, has noticed something else.]
Messages! There are all sorts of them on here. This must be able to hold a lot of information in such a little box. Now I know I must be dreaming no such technology or magic exists. Though, if it did I wonder if it could help young master Tir. Maybe I can describe it to that alchemist we met and he could fashion something similar. It would make keeping track of everything at Toran castle simpler.
Additional First Person Sample:
Young Master? Where are you Young Master? If I'm not with him, who will protect him? Who will keep an eye on him? This isn't good at all. I must have gotten separated somewhere, but where? And when?
Enough of this, I have to go find him, and fast. Maybe if I backtrack a bit....
Eh? Now that I look around, this place isn't even remotely familiar.
