Title: Working
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Summary: A small ficlet where Shouta and Tsuji wonder how to be happy and bright in Final Rikkai Second.
A/N: Inspired by fencer_x's post here. I haven't seen the show myself yet.

Shouta was sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall and playing with the strings of his racket. Tsuji sat beside him, equally silent. It was a breaktime in the rehearsals and people were walking in and out of the rehearsal hall, eating and chatting, singing and trying to do tricks human body wasn't meant to do. The unusually quiet pair got a few odd looks but thanks to Baba-chan's interference they were left alone.

”Are they alright?” Ikko wondered to Baba-chan and looked worried. Baba-chan clapped him on the shoulder with too much force and made Ikko wince. ”They're fine, they're working on the graduation scene.”

”They're not talking,” Ikko pointed out. Baba-chan waved his hand. ”They're probably using telepathic power or something to communicate, you've seen them read scripts together.”

”I guess Oishi wants to remember the graduation as a happy memory,” Tsuji said thoughtfully, obviously not paying attention to the shouting that was happening in the hall. Shouta nodded beside him. ”Kikumaru wouldn't want to make Oishi worry by showing he is sad.”

”They would want to support each other until the end.”

”Their friendship won't end just because they go their separate ways.”

”Yeah, they might not be able to play tennis together anymore, but-”

”- but that doesn't mean they stop being Golden Pair.” Shouta grinned. They fistbumped each other and regained some of their usual cheerness. Shouta picked up his copy of script and a pen from the floor and started to make notes.

”We should think something to talk about, some guidelines to use.”

”Mm, I think we could start with calling at each other, to get the audience to pay attention properly and then... ” Tsuji's voice trailed off when he put his head closer to Shouta's script, talking what they could use and what they should do. Tsuji remarked that Shouta would probably end up crying more than Toshi which earned him a proper smack on the shoulder by a pouting Shouta.

Baba-chan and Ikko grinned to each other and went to join the rest of Seigaku who were watching Toshi performing a one-man show about a duck and an old man. The final Golden Pair paid no attention to the world outside of theirs.
