Notes: Yosh! It’s Liz’s birthday fic! And… the first time I’ve written anything other than TutixNagayan in many, many months. And there are some who could argue that this is still TutixNagayan, but… *coughs* Yeah, this was actually sort of difficult for me, even this relatively small departure from my normal routine. O_o But ever since
tenimyu_slash started up I’ve been thinking that I should branch out, and I was pretty determined to do this for Liz’s birthday so… Jya Jyan! It’s not much, but… *snuggles Liz* I wanted to do it for you! XD;; (I hope you enjoy it, and I apologize for anything that’s off with the characterizations, etc.)
And oh! I almost forgot… The references to a certain French restaurant come from Liz’s wonderful fic
( L’Amour ). ^__^
Nagayan was sure that it had been Kimeru who had given him the idea in the first place. But for once, he decided, it was going to be him doing the meddling. It was going to be him doing the setting up, the scheming, and… the matchmaking? Well, maybe. That much he’d leave up to Kime, he thought with a grin, because regardless of the outcome, he could already tell how much fun this was going to be. And Kime deserved this, after all. It had been a long time since he’d been able to do something for his friend. Besides the fact that he really, really owed him one for everything Kimeru had gone through trying to get him and Tuti together, so… Yeah, Nagayan was definitely going to have fun with this.
First he needed to find Tuti though.
He practically had to drag his partner out of the dressing room and around the corner, ignoring the stares and raised eyebrows that followed them, and ignoring Tuti’s hiss of protest as well, as he tried to find a place where he could share his latest idea without the danger of Kimeru overhearing.
As soon as they passed the food table, and the area had been scanned thoroughly for onlookers and passersby, Nagayan pinned the larger man to the wall for a quick moment, pressing his body against Tuti’s suggestively before releasing him with a grin, which Tuti was sure was in response to the slight blush that had spread across his cheeks.
Tuti glared down at the smaller man for a moment, but all it took was half a second, and he was returning Nagayan’s grin. Two could play this game, after all.
“What’s all this about… love?” And Tuti’s smile and tone of voice turned a little sadistic as he stressed and stretched that last word.
Nagayan looked shocked for a second before he rolled his eyes. When he spoke though, his voice was deep and cold. “Call me that again Tuti, and I swear…”
“What will you do?” Tuti blinked innocently at Nagayan’s pout before he laughed loudly, a burst of sound that Nagayan was sure could be heard through the entire corridor.
“I won’t be happy,” Nagayan grumbled, ignoring the fact that Tuti was still laughing, as he stuck his tongue out at his partner, suddenly wishing he would disappear.
“Well, we don’t want that now do we,” Tuti said with an innocent smile.
Nagayan sighed, but couldn’t completely stop his lips from beginning to curl upwards in a half-smile. “Shut up, Tuti.”
At this Tuti laughed loudly again, and then sighed, eyeing the smaller man suspiciously, because he really was convinced that his partner was up to no good, dragging him off like this. “So what is all this about, anyway?”
A slight pout remained on his lips for second before Nagayan smiled mischievously. “Kime.”
Now it was Tuti’s turn to roll his eyes. He shivered after a second though, and gave Nagayan his best wounded expression. “You know he hates me. What could you possibly have to say to me that involves Kimeru?”
Nagayan laughed, though he figured he understood why Tuti was so nervous. Kime was more than a little protective of his friends, after all, and Nagayan was no exception. He was sure that Tuti knew that all it would take was one false move, one angry phone call, but… He smiled encouragingly at the man in front of him.
“He doesn’t hate you. And either way, you’re going to help me with this.” Nagagan nodded decisively, ignoring the distinct look of fear on his partner’s face.
“With what?” Tuti asked, eyeing the other man suspiciously again. Nagayan was not good at scheming. He couldn’t keep a secret for anything, and Tuti was sure that whatever it was that he’d gotten into his head this time would most certainly not work. At least not on Kimeru. And besides, they had been over this before, if he was reasoning correctly about what Nagayan was thinking right now.
“If you’re going to bring up Abe again, you can just forget it. There’s no way that would work. And besides...” Tuti poked a long finger at Nagayan’s chest. “I refuse to allow you implicate me!”
Nagayan was pouting again. “But...it worked for us, right?” And suddenly Nagayan was remembering a certain French restaurant, a fake date, and well, the fact that the bathroom had been really nice and spacious, and… comfortable, even. He smiled to himself, despite Tuti’s withering look of disapproval. They had to do this - it was the perfect way to thank Kime for that night, he was thinking. He was sure of it.
“Why can’t we at least try, Tuti?” he protested, determined to convince Tuti what a perfect idea this was.
“You just want them to get together so that you can drag them out on a double date and make your friend pay.” Tuti lowered his eyes. “I know you, remember.”
“Mou… Tuti...” Nagayan’s eyes turned serious for a second. “I really want to do this for Kime.” He blinked up at Tuti and then sighed, resigning himself to the truth. “And I can’t think of anything else.”
“Takashi, I know, but… Don’t you think that he’ll suspect something? This is Kimeru we’re talking about.” Tuti chuckled. “And there’s no way that he’d agree to be set up on a date with a girl! Abe might not be much of a problem, but…”
“Baka. It doesn’t have to be with a girl! I told you about the bassist across the hall, right? He’s been bugging me about getting info on that guy forever!” Nagayan pouted again. “It’s at least worth a try, right?”
“What’s worth a try, Takashi?”
The voice cut through both of them like ice, and without either of them bothering to turn around, they knew.
“Damn it, Kime.” Nagayan sighed.
Tuti was already backing away, but Kimeru fixed his eyes on the taller man, causing him to stop in his tracks. Tuti flashed a tentative smile at the small figure in front of him.
“And just so you know, you’re already implicated.” Kimeru told him sweetly, smiling at the look of distress on Tuti’s face.
“Damn it...” Tuti mumbled under his breath, glaring at Nagayan.
“Kime, come on.” Nagayan turned and drew himself up to his full height, and Tuti watched, a little amused, as Kimeru did the same.
“You have to talk to him, right?” Nagayan was saying. “It’s been a week!”
“I know.” And Kimeru sighed, his shoulders slumping a little.
“You’re just being stubborn,” Nagayan told him, his voice softening.
“I know.”
“Well?” He gave his friend a stern look. “You know you’d be telling me the exact same thing.”
Kimeru stared at his friend for a moment before shaking his head. “Fine. You’ve convinced me. Ok? Happy?”
Nagayan watched his friend, raising a puzzled eyebrow at this rather sarcastic change of pace. “Well, sure. I mean...”
Nagayan really wasn’t sure if he had convinced his friend of anything though, as Kimeru stalked away, leaving him alone with a rather frightened looking Tuti. He tried to tell himself that at least he had tried, but… Well, there was always Plan B, he figured, glancing at Tuti tentatively. It would be tricky, especially now, but…
“What now?” Tuti asked wearily after a second, but Nagayan just grinned.

Abe knew it was silly, waiting out here like this, but… He still held out a little hope, he guessed, that if he stood out here long enough, he would be able to fall into step with his friend again like he used to. It hadn’t even been that long, a week at most, but… He couldn’t help but notice. It bothered him. After all, he couldn’t help but notice everything about Kimeru lately, it seemed, and so, of course he had noticed that Kimeru didn’t come this way anymore.
It had only been a few times too, that he’d met Kimeru like this, by chance, and that they had taken these few steps outside together, between the stage door and the parking lot, and only once that they’d gone around the corner to have coffee together, but… It meant something. He missed it. He had no idea what had happened either, why it seemed like Kimeru was avoiding him lately, or why it seemed like he hadn’t met his friend’s eyes in days. Kimeru wasn’t smiling at him like he always used to either, and… If Abe wasn’t convinced that Kimeru had better things to do than waste his time being angry with someone like him... He’d be worried. He shook his head after a second though, because he was sure he was just imagining things.
He was just about to convince himself to start walking, and to stop waiting stupidly for something that wasn’t going to happen, but… Something stopped him. Something told him to wait another second. And so he did.
And even though his mind has suspected who it would be a second before he saw the figure come around the corner, he was surprised anyway. Maybe it was just because Kimeru looked flustered, and Kimeru never looked flustered. Abe blinked when the figure stopped in front of him, and tried to stop his heart from jumping out of his chest.
“What is it? What’s wrong?” Abe found himself asking after a second, when Kimeru still hadn’t said anything.
Kimeru looked back over his shoulder nervously, and at some point of interest behind Abe before asking hurriedly, “Well, what did he say? What did he tell you?”
Abe was really confused now, and searched his mind for some recollection of what his friend might be referring to. “I’m not sure I understand,” he said honestly, looking down at Kimeru for help.
“I know he just came this way.” And Abe noticed now that Kimeru was blushing, which in turn made him blush, and…
“Who just came this way?” He forced himself to ask, though he was feeling more and more uncomfortable the longer Kimeru studied him.
Kimeru blinked. “Takashi.” And then he gave him an odd look, like Abe was crazy for not knowing who he meant.
“Nagayama-san?” He stumbled over the word slightly, as he tried to think, ignoring the slow burn of jealousy that always inexplicably flashed through his mind when Kimeru mentioned Nagayama. “Well, yeah, he did come this way but… He was with Tsuchiya, so... I don’t think he noticed me.” And now Kimeru was giving him another strange look, as if he thought he was lying. “Why?”
“So he didn’t say anything to you? About me?”
“No.” Abe looked at his friend, puzzled. “Why would he?”
And suddenly Kimeru was laughing. Abe heard him mutter something under his breath after a second too, though he was too caught up in listening to his friend laugh, and watching him smile, to wonder about trying to figure out exactly what had just happened.
All remaining thoughts vanished completely from his mind too, as he felt the sudden warmth of Kimeru’s body next to him. His friend linked their arms together, and even through his jacket Abe could feel the tingle of warmth that this contact always filled him with and he smiled.
“Where are we headed?” He asked, without looking at his friend, because he was sure his face had flushed deeply with the same warmth that seemed to be filling his entire body, having Kimeru next to him like this.
Kimeru just laughed again though, a little nervously, and Abe found himself smiling stupidly, because it seemed like it had been so long since he’d been next to his friend like this, and since he had heard that laugh. He was happy, and he could tell that Kimeru was happy, and… He had no idea where Kimeru taking him, or what had just happened, but… It hardly mattered, he told himself, as he gripped his fingers around his friend’s arm tightly, as they crossed the courtyard into the darkness.

In the safety of a different darkness, Nagayan wrapped his arms around Tuti’s waist, pulling his body close to the man in front of him. Tuti leaned back into Nagayan’s warmth for a second before he resumed fumbling for the keys to his apartment.
“You think it worked, right?” Nagayan asked, pressing his cheek against Tuti’s back for one last second before releasing him so that he could move more freely to unlock the door.
“Well, it’s hard to say.” Tuti told the smaller man honestly, opening the door, and shrugging. “I’m sure he knew we were setting him up.”
“But you heard him, Tuti.” Nagayan kicked of his shoes one by one, and stepped into the hallway. “He wanted to be set up. He was practically begging me for it.”
Tuti sighed, smiling a little, because despite his protests, he really did think it was cute that Nagayan was so concerned for his friend. “Why don’t you call him?” He suggested but the words caught in his throat at the look on Nagayan’s face.
“Iya da…” Kimeru’s happiness was important, Nagayan was thinking, but… They were home now. Work was over. There were more pressing matters to be dealt with.
“He can tell me tomorrow,” Nagayan whispered, wrapping his arms around Tuti’s back and smiling as Tuti looked down at him. “I’m busy right now.”
“Oh, are you?”
“I am.” Nagayan stretched out the syllable and moved up a little on his toes, pressing his lips to Tuti’s. His kiss was met with a surprising amount of urgency from Tuti and Nagayan shivered at the low hum that vibrated through his body at the contact.
Tuti broke away after a second though, leading them into the living room. He pulled Nagayan down next to him on the couch, grinning as he attempted to catch his breath.
“You know, I do think it’s really sweet,” Tuti said after a second, his breath tickling the hairs on the top of Nagayan’s head as he spoke.
“What is?” Nagayan asked softly.
“You.” Tuti paused, tracing his fingers over Nagayan’s shoulder and down his arm as far as he could reach. “And this whole thing with Kime.”
Nagayan smiled, relaxing a little more against the rise and fall of Tuti’s chest. “Well, I have to thank him somehow for getting us together, right?”
Tuti laughed. “You can’t give Kimeru all the credit for that. Don’t you think we would have gotten together anyway?”
“Maybe…” Nagayan grinned when he heard Tuti gasp in surprise. “Baka.” Nagayan wrapped his body a little tighter around Tuti. “You know I’m kidding. We definitely would have.”
“Definitely?”
“Yeah.”
And Nagayan could tell that Tuti was smiling, even in the darkness. He snuggled a little closer to the warm body next to him, and closed his eyes, happy that he could count this evening as a success. On all accounts, he figured, because somehow he just knew that Kime would be thanking him in the morning. Maybe not as much as he had thanked his friend that morning after their fated French restaurant experience, but… We can’t all be so lucky as that, Nagayan was thinking, as familiar lips found his mouth and all thoughts of Kimeru and anything else vanished.
