In my cross-posting frenzy last night I appear to have neglected to post this here. *cough* So, sorry if you see this, like, 15 times. This is the first of my
7snogs, for themes 1 (uniform) and 4 (sunset). Go join the comm! There's plenty of PoT pairings still unclaimed! ^_~
Title: Night Before
Author:
elyndysFandom: Prince of Tennis
Pairing: Sanada/Yukimura

The night before Yukimura goes back to school, he can't keep still. He's long since finished the work that Sanada has dutifully brought him, after his insistence that he was well enough to work at home. He hated the thought of not keeping up with his class; Yukimura prides himself on being at least a few steps ahead, so, as soon as he came home from hospital, he instructed Sanada to collect all the work he was missing from his teachers. (The thought of being patronised for not knowing the answers makes him furious, so he sends his completed work back, with Sanada, to be marked. He'll give none of his teachers the chance to look at him pityingly and say "It's not your fault"; he got top grades for every piece of work. He won't allow anyone to make allowance for his illness, because it's in the past, and tomorrow is the future.)
He's almost embarrassed by how excited he feels at the prospect of returning. He knows it's sentimental, but he can't help wanting to share the feeling with someone - he doesn't want to walk into school alone. He knows once he gets to class it'll be like he's never been away; but before then, he needs something to keep his feet on the ground, calm the adrenalin.
It's only ten minutes after Yukimura hangs up the phone that Sanada is at the door. "I hope I didn't drag you away from anything." Yukimura knows Sanada wouldn't be here if he didn't want to be, but he appreciates the effort Sanada always makes whenever he asks something like this.
Sanada shakes his head. "It's no trouble." He hesitates for a moment, and Yukimura turns to lead Sanada up to his room. "I know it must be… strange for you."
Yukimura smiles, though Sanada can't see. "My mother thinks it's funny, I've driven my dad crazy, pacing round the house, and my sister thinks I'm mad for actually *wanting* to go back to school." He closes his bedroom door behind them. "It is strange, yeah, but I just feel so…" He trails off, but with a smile so bright that it leaves Sanada in doubt as to what he means.
Sanada smiles as well. "I've looked forward to you coming back," he confesses, and moves to stand close to Yukimura; the back of his hand brushes Yukimura's, just very lightly, and Yukimura can feel Sanada's warmth next to him.
He turns, suddenly, and puts his hand on Sanada's shoulder; it's all overwhelming, and he feels giddy and hot inside as they kiss. Yukimura doesn't hold back, and when they break apart, Sanada looks a little stunned. Yukimura can't help but feel pretty pleased with himself.
Sanada opens his mouth to say something, but Yukimura presses a finger to Sanada's lips teasingly, and smirks at the taken-aback expression he gets in return. He takes his hand back, and takes Sanada's own with it, and they watch the sun set quietly over Yukimura's garden. Yukimura switches off the light, and they talk and kiss more until Sanada is falling asleep on the floor. Yukimura keeps still, but even when he closes his eyes he can't seem to wind down enough to even want to sleep. He watches Sanada for a while in the dark, occasionally brushing a hand over his cheek or hair affectionately. Turning over, he catches sight of his school uniform, where it's hanging on his wardrobe door, and stares. Like everyone else, he's sometimes hated having to wear a tie in summer, not being allowed to be seen out of school without your blazer on; he's resented that he was 'always representing Rikkaidai', like his school is indelibly stamped through him and his every action is a part of that.
Now, though, it's welcome. It excites him, to think of being a part of that again - of being able to be a part of it. School means all the things he's good at, all the people he enjoys being around - all the things he still wants to learn. He looks forward to showing everyone just how good Rikkai is again, and how they're even better, now he's back.
Eventually he gets up, puts his uniform on, though it's still dark outside and there's hours till school. He hears stirring across the room, sees Sanada squinting at him quizzically in the darkness.
"I'll never complain again," he reasons, and puts the light on to see his reflection in the mirror.
Sanada smiles, and doesn't question.

The next day, Yukimura falls asleep twice in class, but no-one comments: his English teacher is sympathetic, because it's his first day back; and his history teacher lets him off because he's Yukimura Seiichi, and, secretly, she's delighted he's back in her class.
