Just wanted to give you a hug. I've come to the realization that whatever story DH is telling these days isn't one I want to hear. I feel they're doing a disservice to the characters and the 'verse by creating their own characterizations of Buffy and Spike that are counter to what we saw in the show. I'll pay attention only on a very limited level and will no longer buy their products because I think they don't care about the characters the way fans do. I completely understand exactly where you're coming from (even if the asshats at BF don't), so you can be sure you're not alone in your comics distaste.
I'll probably spend very little or (hopefully) no attention to the comics.
And I do think they care about the characters, just only certain characters. Everything else they probably don't respect.
As for comics Spuffy, I'd be very understanding, even okay if there had been zero romance between them. I'd been okay if neither were in love with each other any longer, so long as they let the relationship feel natural and be important, no matter the type. Instead they took a big poop to it.
Rest assured, you're not by far the only one feeling and thinking like this.
The dedicated and singleminded DH Buffyverse demolishing squad has been hard at work for years now. Scott Allie just got promoted for job well done! There are just a few finishing touches to complete the mission, and then all we have left is a heap of rubble and they walk away with the money. And there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. *stares the havoc in stunned silence*
Ha, love your comment! I'm super happy I'm not alone.
There are people who still love the comic 'verse, but I really wonder what sales figures will look like next season. Unless they pull a miracle and turn it around, I have a feelings season 8 was a serious jump the shark moment and it'll continue to dwindle.
I guess I got too wrapped up in what is canon. I find it hard to ignore it. I don't like the term "true fan" 'cause I think that is a load of crap. If you like a series, you're a fan. I just really need to learn to disassociate the comics with TV show. My mind just can't unplug the two at the moment
( ... )
I commend your bravery about the comics. I'm glad you were able to disassociate it with the TV show. It's harder for me, because when reading the comics I imagine the actors acting out the scenes. I hear their voices. And I just can't break them apart at the moment. But I am trying!
Ugh, I didn't like Indy 4 or the Star Wars prequel. I actually was a huge SW's fan in my teens. My first fan fic was a Star Wars fan fic that I wrote in 3 notebooks. This was years before I read the extended universe and was ultimately upset at where they took the character, both before and after the original timeline. It was hard to continue my love after that.
But, yeah. I do need a break, just so I can nurse my Buffyverse broken heart and make it grow again for the TV show. I'm hoping that trying to write my spuffy fan fic will help. I didn't know many still remembered me in the fandom. I should really stop by the chat room more often.
Thanks for commenting, glomping you back for your awesomeness!
I agree, the artwork makes it hard. But I got used to it and the artist is really sweet, so I rolled with it.
It helps to stay away, but the more upset I get the more motivation I get to do something productive, like write fan fic or the like. So there is an upside to this! :)
I hope to be around soon! Kind of just floating now, straighten my head, because it got screwed off.
I view the comics as a graphic form of fan fic. No more important, no less. I enjoy the pretty Spike pictures, but I certainly don't view it as canon. Season 8 took care of that very quickly. No way was this my Buffy. And Buffy Forums is populated with some quirky characters, no matter how many self-important posts/pronouncements are made their opinions are no more important than yours or mine.
Oh! That is exactly how I viewed the IDW stuff for awhile. And that does help, to think season 8 and 9 as an AU fanfic that got out of hand and made into a comic.

I don't think even rubble will be left. =/
