Appearance & personality: Hikaru is pretty much used to being spoiled, either by his older brother, or by his parents. He's cocky because he knows he can handle himself, he can analyse things quickly and deduce how to stay safe. He's smart, enough to be classified as a genius in some cases because of how quickly he can adapt and learn new things.
He's also rebellious, however. As soon as he learned how to protect himself after his brother left, he had a tendancy to sneak out to be by himself, rather than having his mother nagging at him all the time. It was peaceful when he climbed trees, and because he'd been taught how to use a bow and arrow (it wasn't necessarily that difficult) he could sometimes get a kill for them to take for dinner.
He took the path of rebellion even further by piercing his ears to make a statement - putting in metal to keep the wounds open. He did this once he'd gotten to Ugara where his brother could heal any infections and really wouldn't chide him for being careless about it like his mother had. It gave him individuality which was something he liked. He also enjoys music, and often wishes he had an instrument to play as he figures he'd be good at it - just like everything else.
When he talks to people he addresses them with the correct suffix to make the conversation polite, however, for most of the time the way he constructs things is blunt and borderline insulting, especially for those who aren't used to his way of speaking.
History: As a child, Hikaru had actually grown up in Hatray as had generations of his family before him. After an earlier conflict, his family had ran to the neutral zones for cover from the wars that kept breaking out, preferring to battle wild animals and beasts rather than people. Considering his lineage, it was rather easy for his parents (particularly his mother) to keep up the same pathway of choosing a more peaceful life, rather than one of fighting. Both of his parents were White Mages, his father better at it than his mother who took up the role as a house wife easily when she gave birth to her first son, Hiroki.
His brother left when he was still young, being much older than him. It hit him hard, especially in the first year or so as he tended to follow his brother around a lot - especially whenever he ventured out. With him gone, Hikaru was stuck under his mother's constant watch. The worst part came when his brother wrote saying he'd found himself a woman who wanted to meet the family and that he was moving away to Ugara to live with her. He'd already been away for his Mage training, and was quitting early to be with her - working in the Maritime business instead of continuing on with the family's long line.
Hikaru took his chance to move without a second thought. While living in the neutral zone did have it's merits, having to constantly look out for danger was awkward as a child, and while his abilities to protect himself was above par, he preferred to live in a place with better protections and luxuries. Actually, the constant pressure for survival is what made him differ from the rest of his family, not caring about the aspect of war when it meant he wouldn't have to worry for his life so much if he chose the path of a Black Mage instead of a White Mage like the rest of his family.
