I think talking to a midwife and switching is a great idea. I agree that women should make the effort to find a caregiver who will support their birth preferences. Of course, you must keep in mind that anything can happen and be flexible and open to changing the plan should something come up. But birth centers are usually equipped to handle this, so you should be all set there.

I would rather have my OB deliver my babies too---and I had asked if it would be her, if we have a planned csection. She said yes, but Im not sure we were on the same page--a scheduled c section (date and time chosen) vs. planned (wait for labor to begin and then do csection) are a bit different, so I'll double check when I see her today. That part sucks, but I've met most of the other OBs that are in that rotation and they seemed pretty nice in general. Although Im still not sure which ones were residents and which were attendings. I like my OB's partner, so I'd be ok with him, as a 2nd choice.

I see why OB practices like to have on-call rotations for the sanity of the doctors, but it completely sucks that you don't get to choose who delivers you. It's such a major, important life event, it really would be best to be delivered by the doctor one trusts most ( ... )

Yeah, I also get very antsy when things are disorganized. You still have some time though.

While you are waiting to hear from the doula and OB, why don't you start calling pediatricians? If you need names, call the OB office and ask the office staff to help out. Even if you plan to move, you can always find a new pedi later.

A pump and bottles would be good to have around--if you can't get to a store, you can order a lot of that stuff online. All the pump manufacturers will tell you not to use previously used ones, but a lot of that is because they lose money, so if you know anyone who can give or lend you a pump, at least for a few weeks until you get your own, go for it. Bassinette is not as crucial--infants can sleep anywhere and as long as she's on her back, it's all good---the car seat, stroller or a dresser drawer will all work. You might be able to get ahold of a used PNP (or a new one) and use the basinette function of that.

I'm going to set up an interview with the pedi I have in mind for sometime next week. It's the only one that I've heard good things about via other mommies ( ... )
