It's a sad commentary on our culture that it takes a football team doing well and not a natural disaster creating victims with real needs for a community to come together and a nation to support it.

One is positive and the other is negative. The community did come together post-Katrina. The problem is we have a hard time getting funding and outside business as no one wants to invest in a hurricane-vulnerable area, especially when you add the local politics on top of that.

Football is a form of culture, low-brow that it may be. I can tell you that everyone down there is full of joy right now, from die-hard fans to people who generally loathe football.
