Prompt 015. Rooftops, Hankyung/Sungmin
Super Junior celebrated their winning in Music Bank at the dorm. Every member laughed and had a drink in their hand. No one noticed Sungmin quietly out the door and headed to the elevator. He brought one bottle of wine and two glasses. Once inside the elevator, he pushed the button and waited until he reached the floor.
When the elevator opened, he walked to the stairs, headed to rooftop. He climbed the stairs slowly, humming a tune. Breezy air welcomed him at the rooftop. Sungmin walked to his favorite spot. He put the bottle and glasses, sat down and took out his phone. “Now everything’s ready,” he thought. While humming his favorite tune, he typed a message in his phone.
“I’m ready.”
He sent the message and wait for the reply. It wasn’t the message, but his phone rang.
I'm going
International, go go
International show show
International logo oh oh oh
Sungmin grabbed his phone and answered, “Hankyung hyung!”
“Sungmin-ah, congratulations!”
“Hyung! You watch us?”
“Of course! How can I miss it?”
“Thank you so much, Hyung.”
“So, are we ready?”
“How do I know you’re ready there?”
“Can’t you hear the sound of wind?”
“Need more solid proof than just sound of wind, Hyung.”
“Wait the second.”
Hangeng hung up the phone. While waiting, Sungmin opened the bottle and poured it to the two glasses. Then his phone blinked, one message came. He hurriedly open it and saw Hangeng’s picture, held a bottle of wine with city lights as his background. Then Sungmin called back.
“Okay we’re ready.”
“So we toast for Super Junior’s 7th winning tonight.”
“Cheers to that!”
Sungmin toasted to the air and emptied his glass. He put the first glass and took the second glass. “Now toast for what, Hyung?” said Sungmin.
“Toast for SMTOWN Concert and the upcoming Super Show 4.”
“Agree! Cheers!” Sungmin once again emptied his glass. He filled both glasses again and waited for Hangeng to speak.
“Have you filled your glasses, Minnie?”
“Are you drunk already, Hyung?” Sungmin asked.
“As your advice, I only poured a fair amount of wine in my glass. No, I’m not drunk yet.”
“Good. Because I miss our conversation time,” Sungmin admitted. Hangeng exhaled from across the phone.
“You’re not the only one, then. I do miss our conversation time.”
“Every time I miss you, I always go to the rooftop. To our favorite spot. Just sit there and look at the stars or full moon. Thinking of you. What are you doing? Have you eaten? How’s your back? Things like that. Silly, huh?” Sungmin chuckled.
“I always go to the rooftop, too. Look at the stars. Thinking how my Sungmin back there in Seoul? Has he slept well? Is Kyuhyun still bothering him with his nagging? Very childish, right?”
Sungmin chuckled. “I guess we are two grown-ups who love to act like children,” he said. He looked up to the sky. “How’s night in Beijing?” he asked.
“Full of stars.”
“Same here. But I miss one star,” Sungmin said. He stood up, phone in his left ear and glass in his right hand. He leaned his body to the railing and took a sip of his wine. "You always toast for me. How about for you?" he asked.
"Let's hear it from you."
"I would like to toast for you, Hyung. Your new career as an actor. Hope your upcoming movie will be a hit," said Sungmin. He raised his glass to the sky, and drank it.
"Cheers!"
Both men laughed. Then a comfortable silence came between them. No one dare to speak, only to hear each other breath over the phone.
"I still remember the first time I met you."
"I also remember the first time I catched your gaze on me whenever we trained."
"I remember the blush in your face when you gave me your first Chinese food."
"I remember the shyness in your eyes when you cooked Kimchi Jigae for me."
Both men exchanged their memories with laughter. Remembered how funny and naive they were back then. Until the reality hit them.
"I remember our last stage when you held GDA trophy so tight. It's like a sign. I couldn't read your expression that day."
"I remember our last quarrel. Hurt me so bad that I couldn't face you, until the very end."
No one talked. They were drowned in their own little world with those memories. "But now we can talk again, Hyung. Although haven't got a chance to meet again. Except by video call, of course," Sungmin chuckled.
"Before I forgot, do you still have wine?"
“Yes, I have. Another toast?” asked Sungmin. He could hear Hangeng little laugh. How he missed that laugh!
“I want to toast for you, Sungminnie. For having you in my life, started from trainee days, our debut and all our performances. Thank you for all laughs and tears we shared. Thank you because of your existence in my life.”
Sungmin didn’t say any words. He stared up to the sky. He raised his glass to the sky. “Cheers for your grateful words,” and drank the wine. He heard Hangeng also drank his wine. "Now it's my turn," Sungmin straightened up and raised his glass up high.
"To Hangeng. One of my great hyung. I'm grateful since the day you were born because you can come into my life. You came to Korea and met us, met me. Who always cooked for me. Hugged me when I cried watching drama. Who bought me and still sent me pinky stuff. Who love me with all his heart," said Sungmin.
"Cheers!"
Sungmin toasted to the sky and drank his wine. "I miss you so much, hyung. Can we meet again?" he said while sat down. Hangeng only chuckled.
"We can meet now if you want."
Sungmin raised his eyebrow. "Don't be ridiculous! You're in Beijing. How can I met you?" he asked.
"I said I'm on the rooftop. But I didn't say that it's in Beijing."
Suddenly Sungmin froze. Hangeng in Korea now?
"I'll hung up the phone and wait for you here. Check my picture once again. Bye!"
Sungmin stared to his phone. He hurriedly checked Hangeng's picture. He carefully checked the picture until he recognized the scenery. There's a billboard written in Hangul. That particular scenery...
"Hyung in Namsan Tower?" Sungmin thought to himself. He quickly grabbed the glasses and bottle, ran to the stairs and to the lift. He came back to the dorm, put his coat on.
"Sungmin-ah, where are you going?" Leeteuk shouted from living room. "Bye, hyung. Won't be long!" that's the only thing Sungmin could said. Then he out of the dorm.

Hangeng put his phone back to his pocket. He leaned to the railing, admired the city lights of Seoul. He must admitted that he missed Seoul so much, especially one of its residents.
Hangeng started to walk circling the tower. He went to the part where meant the most for him. Once he arrived, thousands of lock welcomed him. Hangeng headed to a spot in the corner.
He smiled.

Sungmin ran as fast as he could until he reached the parking lot. He reached out his pocket, pulled the key and unlock the car. He started the engine once he was inside, and went out of the parking lot.
In no time, he arrived at Namsan Tower. He parked the car and ran as fast as he can until he reached the elevator. Once he's inside, Sungmin tried to catch his breath. He leaned to the wall, fell to his knee. It's been a year he haven't met Hangeng in person.
He finally stood up while the elevator kept going to the destination floor. Sungmin's heart pounded very hard. He clutched his chest, tried to keep it calm.
Finally, the elevator door opened. Sungmin once again ran to the stairs and kept running until he reached the top. Cold wind welcomed him. He started looking for Hangeng.
He circled the tower until he found him. Hangeng sat in the chair, with wine in his right hand and stared to a spot filled with lock. Sungmin approached him slowly. As if he heard Sungmin, Hangeng started to speak without looked at him, "Do you remember this place, Sungmin-ah?"
Sungmin didn't speak, just continue to walked toward him. "27 August 2007, I sneaked out of the dorm with you and went here. We put our lock here, so we will never be apart. But in the end, I left you first," said Hangeng. Sungmin stood beside him, still said nothing.
Hangeng rose and faced Sungmin. He put his glass and took Sungmin's hand, who still stared with disbelief. Hangeng took Sungmin to the spot. "I couldn't found the lock. Must be way down those locks," Hangeng chuckled.
"Hyung, how-" Sungmin stopped when he was hugged by Hangeng. He missed this hug, so Sungmin hugged back tightly. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry for leaving you," he heard Hangeng's whisper and little sob. Sungmin slowly hugged him back. It's not a dream!
Hangeng released the hug and wiped his tears. Sungmin stared at him, slowly raised his hand to Hangeng's cheek. "You're here. I'm not dreaming, am I?" Sungmin caressed the cheek. Hangeng took Sungmin's hand and kissed it. Hangeng then took something out from his pocket.
"I want to renew our promise with new lock," Hangeng said, guided Sungmin to the spot. He gave the locks to Sungmin. One lock was carved with "Geng" and "Min" in the other, both in Hangul and Chinese in the both side. Then he gave Sungmin a gold color marker. "Write your name in my lock and I write my name in your lock," said Hangeng. Both man wrote in the lock, stealing glances to each other, and chuckled.
"Done!" said Sungmin. "Me too," said Hangeng. He took the marker from Sungmin, put it in his pocket. As exchange, he took out two keys, also carved with "Geng" and "Min". Hangeng handed the key to Sungmin, "Here's the key. Let's put it together."
"Where we're gonna put it, Hyung?" Sungmin asked. His hand were busy with his lock. Hangeng took a look, tried to find a place. "It must be hidden from public eyes," Hangeng said while considering some spots. Sungmin joined him as well. "Minnie, here. It's good," said Hangeng. Sungmin looked at it and smiled. "Let's do it, hyung!" said Sungmin. He took Hangeng's lock and connect it to his lock. Hangeng took both locks and tried to lock it. After several tries, he did it.
"There," said Hangeng. Sungmin took out his phone and snapped the locks. Both men looked at the picture and smiled. "Now it's our turn," said Hangeng. He embraced Sungmin and took picture with his own phone. Sungmin hugged Hangeng and smiled to the camera. They saw the picture and giggled. "Send it to me, hyung," Sungmin clapped his hand. Hangeng smiled.
After several pictures later, they walked to the other side of the tower. Still hugged each other, they looked at the sky. "That's odd," said Sungmin. "What's odd?" Hangeng asked, tightened his hug. Sungmin pointed to the sky. "That stars," he said. Hangeng looked to the direction Sungmin pointed. Two stars, side by side, shine so brightly. "I never saw stars like that. I'm not an astronomer, but this is the first time I saw stars perfectly side by side like that," said Sungmin again.
"Is that us?" Hangeng looked at Sungmin, smiled. Sungmin leaned his head to Hangeng's shoulder. "Just hug me, Hyung," said Sungmin. A request that Hangeng happily granted.
Now they completed.
