So I went to bed last night reading Hunter: the Vigil. And I woke up this morning at 4:30, bolt awake, with what seemed like an awesome idea for a Compact: The Pittsburgh Pirates. Is it possible that other teams are involved? That perhaps major league baseball is secretly involved at the highest levels? Not every player on every team, but some players, some teams?

That explains Andy Van Slyke's foreshortened career-- he spent too much time investigating Bonds and trying to prove that he was secretly making deals with demonic figures instead of eradicating them. Worried that these dealings would spread to corrupt Bonilla, Spanky, and others, Van Slyke defeated Bonds (with surprise last-minute help from Willie Stargell) in an occult battle in 1992 which led to Bonds leaving the team, but that expended most of Van Slyke's psychic energy and he could only hold out a few more years.
