The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!(Anon commenting allowed. Nothing ( Read more... )

Well I hardly know anything about you and didn't realise you Jude for so long.

But now that I'm about to be a single mother I've been wondering how you do it there, or have done it - living and working in that city, raising a little boy, and being you.

I always remember that story about the nanny(?) collecting him from nursery/school and the teacher being concerned about his drawing of you with green hair, and the nanny having to explain that you really did.

It inspires me.

So how do you do it?

I wish I could answer that. It really is more by good luck than good judgement! I've been lucky that Jude is awesome, and I have a lot of support from family and friends. Without both of those factors, I'm not sure I could have done it at all!

I guess at the end of the day, it's just about staying strong, and reminding yourself why you're doing it. Good luck! Sorry to hear about your marriage breaking down though :(

Friends and family do seem to be a pretty integral part of life and sanity during parenthood.

I would still really like to move off and do things in the great wide world. Beyond burning curiosity, the primary reason I've always sought distant places is that there is a much greater demand for what I do other parts of the world. So while I stay here I have the benefit of family to help me, but it seems to be so much harder to help myself. Our job market here (and from the sounds of things in many places) is worse than I can ever remember. Of course if I go off to the places with greater opportunities for us, it means sacrificing time with Ewan and his time with family.

Tough choices.

However, on a positive note, there are great many possibilities and that is something I look forward to very much.

Thank you for the advice. :)
