30 Day Song Challenge -- Playing catchup (Day 07-11)

Mar 24, 2011 04:19

I'm really bad at this, aren't I. I haven't updated this challenge thing since the 19th, therefor, this entry will be huge >_> please do read through it though (I mean, if you want to. if you've read through the others, anyway. I DON'T KNOW.) ... I'll try to make the stories interesting so its not like oh, huge wall of embeds lololol

Day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event
3/19/11

Artist: V6
Song: Haresugita sora

Funny, I didn't even know there was a PV to this. Could be unofficial, I don't know. Anyways, the event this song reminds me of is summer--I don't know why, but to me, it has such a laid-back feel to it that just makes it a really good song to chill out to, and what better time to chill out than the summer? I'm not really sure if you could consider summer an "event"...but that's what I'm doing. I used to love listening to this song around dusk, when the sun was setting, as I'd drive around San Antonio back in my college days. I kinda miss that place sometimes....sometimes.

This was also the B-Track to Utao Utao, if I'm not mistaken, which also has a very summer-like feel to it (the PV especially) ... I don't know if I can say it enough times, but V6 songs have this thing about them that just...make you feel really, really good when you hear them, and that to me is how summer is SUPPOSED to feel.

Day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
3/20/11

Artist: The Beach Boys
Song: Sloop John B.

Here's a little known fact about me: I really like oldies. When I was really young, I would listen to music to help me fall asleep. I eventually discovered the oldies station on the radio and got hooked. My parents, of course having listened to a lot of the music themselves in their younger days, would in turn play the channel in the car and around the house quite often. I even had the pleasure of attending a Frankie Valli concert when I was maybe around six years old--he didn't do any falsetto stuff, but man, it was so cool.

I don't really listen to this stuff all that often, I guess you could call it a guilty pleasure--or maybe just a soft spot. Fact of the matter is, I love this stuff. The Beach Boys are of course a classic group with classic songs, and this one is no exception. I'm not sure what it was, but I fell in love with every part of this song. The Beach Boys are known for their harmonies, and I think that's easily my favorite part. I considered covering this song once, but there's already SO MANY cool covers out there (one of my favorites is by Sunny Boys, an Italian-based cover group--being Italian myself, well, that's even cooler I guess. Look them up on YouTube!) Did you know this song was originally by the Kingston Trio? True story. Even cooler bit of history is that lyrically, it was apparently written by writer/poet Carl Sandburg, if I remember correctly.

Day 09 - a song that you can dance to
3/21/11

Artist: Lee Jung Hyun
Song: Tell Me

NO. NOT THAT OTHER "TELL ME" SONG BY SOME OTHER KOREANS.

This song...is...very...very...catchy. I really don't know much about the artist, but this song makes me want to dance--and that's probably dangerous.

Day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
3/22/11

Artist: Jigglypuff
Song--wait, what?

Day 11 - a song by your favorite band
3/23/11

Artist: V6
Song: Jougen no Tsuki

I already posted a few TOKIO songs (and looking further down the list, those won't be the last), so I figured that I should for this song use my pretty much tied as favorite artist, V6. Okay...that, and I was looking for an excuse to use this song.

I love this song. It is under-rated. It was a B-track to Change the World (aka the only song anyone not a JE fan has ever heard by V6. It's like the "Sorafune" of V6 songs) and also showed up on Very Best II and whatever album it debuted on (I should know this!!) I think what I love best is the harmonies, ESPECIALLY the way the second chorus sounds. Okada did a solo to this song (a straight pop version) during their 2003 Summer Special Dream Live tour, and I am fortunate enough to have that version on the DVD of said tour! I really would love to cover this song one day, but I want to REALLY do it justice...so it might not be any time particularly soon. We'll see. There's really not much else to say...I'm just obsessed with this song.

anyway...that's my catch-up entry. I WILL TRY TO BE MORE CONSISTENT FROM NOW ON :(
