SF Bay area housing leads

Hey all, I've got a friend and her partner who've recently moved to the bay area and are looking for a place to rent. My friend is a painter, and she's looking for "a loft in an artist community or close by at least so that i can network". They're looking in the east bay, or anywhere else that can meet those requirements

One of the biggest artist's colony in the East Bay is the Ford Street Studios in Oakland CA. I have several friends who live there and they love it. I believe right now they have vacancies because (in the interests of full disclosure) Oakland has been kind of crime ridden (more than normal) and several of the more flight prone artists have left. If I didn't have a kid, that's where I'd be living.

Kind of a major collective house in my personal little community is getting evicted, so six people are on their butts. Which means that right now- for me- it's kind of tight trying to find a place for somebody. I'll still put out the feelers though!
