I love it. It plays to such a gross and crass part of myself and to desires I dare not mention. It's basically the tranny porn equivalent of academia. If that makes any sense at all.

I'm not sure it's really as fierce as some good tranny porn. But whatever floats your submarines.

I'm embarrassed to say that I was actually excited enough that I asked some professors if they thought it was for real. Jerry was like, "they're not offering you anything to use your work, who cares?" Yeah, Jerry. You tell em.

I got it, too. I looked into it and it is actually legit. It's just sort of a crap deal... you send them a pdf of your thesis. They keep it the way it is, give it an IBSN and put it up on Amazon (etc.) and wait for someone to order it. If someone does (for $80), they print out a copy and send it and you get fees. You do, however, lose most of the rights to your writing.

And no will ever buy a thesis off of Amazon. Honestly. Everyone at Reed gets this email eventually.

Of course not. I could see two scenarios wherein someone might purchase a thesis off of Amazon: 1) A person's family member might get one for novelty's sake. However, I think a person would be better off just having his/her family member hand over the money to him/her directly. 2) If a person got really, really famous and fans found the thesis on Amazon. This might just end up being embarrassing.

From what I can tell, the only benefit to this would be if it were directly beneficial to you to be able to say/claim that you've been published. I know a few Reedies who've done this with this company solely for that purpose.

Also, I am highly amused that a majority of people who get hit with these e-mails are actually Masters and PhD students. I am somewhat inflated in the ego about that.
