Hmmm I fail to see who you're referencing other than possibly Venetian Snares? All I'd have to say is that time is too simple of a metric to base artistic integrity on. Some genres are easier to pander to and some bands do more things than just make music. If a band releases music less often does that strengthen your belief in their artistic integrity? Does artistic integrity even matter in the first place, isn't the most important thing a song that pleases you, why should you like a band with extraordinary amounts of artistic integrity if you just plain don't like them?
Ryoji Ikeda has artistic integrity, for one album "a high frequency sound is used that the listener becomes aware of only upon its disappearance", a sonic phenomenon that is taken advantage of in music compression such as mp3. Artism, check. Doesn't mean you'll necessarily like his music.
Don't think I'm attempting to debunk you or your taste in music; I'm not. Anyone who spends his time collecting music clearly likes music. Anyone who spends his time categorizing the countless artists he collects clearly likes music. Anyone who spends his time driving to a bookstore in the middle of nowhere to see a Soft Pink Truth - alone - clearly like music. And that's the thing. I understand you like music. Now, I want to understand why.
Your music is alien to me. It's so far removed from anything I'm regularly exposed to that I cannot begin to comprehend it. Thus far, I only have your passion to validate its good-ness. That's not enough. I want to appreciate it for its own merits.
...isn't the most important thing a song that pleases you?
Most important, yes. The only factor? No. Clearly, you should listen to something you enjoy. However, can you enjoy (and I mean really enjoy) music you don't respect? If an artist is: shamelessly rehashing the work of some other musician, releasing a torrent of nearly identical

No.I think this is the difference between a band that's liked momentarily, for a few months at most, if not just a few listens, and something you come back to consistantly. Anything can please me for no good reason, I'm hooked on Beyonce's new dancey song thing, but I know I'll be deleting it within a month. I can't even go any deeper than that song because she's a dead-end to me, I know her other stuff will not please me
