This is the article from the New Yorker that inspired The Bridge. It is long but compelling. Let me know if you take the time to read it and what you think.
Yeah seriously. One of the kids that survived, I forget his name but I think it was Kevin, is interviewed in the documentary. His story is just so crazy. The way he tells it, he fell and fell and then sort of blacked out, only to be awakened by a circle of seals swimming around him. Buoying him. He thinks it was a miracle and I don't even doubt him.
Hey! You're back! That article was amazing and I keep thinking about it in my daily life. I didn't realize (perhaps I'm sheltered) that the golden gate was so famous for its suicide completion rate. And also crazy that people refuse to do anything about it. Anyway, thanks for posting the article, it was quite eye-opening.
I'm glad you read the article and liked it. I found it simply stunning and I also couldn't believe the resistance to a suicide barrier. I read the article to Arthur (yep, out of college and I still find any excuse to read aloud) and he also didn't support one (he's from the Bay area). I don't understand that mentality. If you can prevent something that so rampant, why not try?
I'm back indeed! I'm impressed you found me. :) Although I wasn't hiding, just kept forgetting to add you.
Weird. I totally posted something in response to your response, but now it isn't here!
I just said that I figured it was you when you responded to Kato's b-day wishes entry. And that I miss when we used to read out loud to each other, that was good, quality friend time. And I still sometimes crave those spicy peppers and black bean soup that we used to eat after school while reading. You were good at putting together vegan snacks!
Also, I'm really feeling the need to journal lately, perhaps your new start inspired me, so I'm hoping to get back into the livejournal thing soon, when I've gathered my thoughts. Take care!
No that was me, I deleted it by accident--I just thought I was deleting the initial message that I had a message! Confusing...
I'm a little embarassed by all the times I forced us to read to each other. But, I'm glad you look back on it fondly. :) I enjoy reading and being read to so much. Mmmm that spicy soup, I haven't thought about that forever!
I hope you continue journaling, as I think the more you do it, the easier it is to explore all your feelings. I love and I'm going to add you as a friend RIGHT NOW before LJ craps out or I forget!
