Nino can’t help but open his eyes and yelp in pain as his bony ass hits the floor when he was thrown off his bed.
“Up, skinny boy! Bed sheet.” Jun pulled on the fabric and dumping it into a large laundry basket beside his foot where other four bed sheets are already piling up inside it.
“Nooo…” Nino grunted into the floor. He forgot that today is cleaning day. They set up a date once a month, usually on Sunday, to clean up the whole house. On this day, everybody wakes up early and split up for chores. But Jun always takes up the laundry. One, because he’s noisy about the use of detergent and softener. And two, because he’s the only one who can operate the washing machine without breaking it into pieces.
“Hurry up and come down. They’re gonna start it soon.”
It, means janken. That’s how they decide on who’s doing what.
“Wait, what about breakfast?”
Aiba, who suddenly pops in his room, stuffed a raisin bun to his mouth. “Here.” He flopped down to sit beside Nino on the floor.
The gamer took the bread in his hand and pouted. “It’s not enough. Jun, make me some pancakes.” He pleaded, or rather, ordered.
“Work first, eat later.” The younger man said, lifting his basket.
“Manipulative bitch.” Nino muttered under his breath.
Jun spunned around and throw him a glare. “What did you just say?!”
“Witch! He said witch!” Aiba quickly covered Nino’s mouth with his palm.
Jun squinted. Aiba froze. Nino nodded slowly.
“You are so not getting any sexing from me.” Jun finally said and walked out of Nino’s room.
Aiba pulled his hand off Nino’s face. “Sometimes I think he’s really going to kill you someday.”
“Jun? No..” Nino waved his hand. “He loves me too much.”

Nino is down in the living room five minutes later, joining the others who already gathered there.
“Okay guys. Let’s do it.” Aiba rubbed his hands together.
Sho twist his arms and lift it up in front of his face, lips enchanting, “Not the kitchen. Not the kitchen.”
The kitchen is what they avoid the most. The burned up griller, the oily appliances, the trash. There are too many things to do, and too many stains to remove. And if they’re lucky, the smell that came from the sink’s pipe means extra work with brush and dissolution liquid.
They held up their fists. “Start it with rock. Janken-PON!”

Nino is trying hard to avoid looking at Jun because every time their eyes met, Jun would give him that S look and smirked at him. “That’s for calling me ‘bitch’.” He whispered in his ear as he walked pass the kitchen. He choose to ignore him by pouring more washing liquid to the sponge in his hand and starts scrubbing the gas range.
When he opened the lower cupboard to get a dust cloth, he found a small blue tube and groaned. “Guys, how many times do I have to tell you: No sexing in the kitchen! It’s contaminating!” And threw the tube of lubricant across the living room and it fell on the sofa.
“Jun-tan! I ran out of floor cleaning detergent!” Aiba yelled from inside the bathroom.
“It’s in here!” Replied the model. He’s in the middle of setting the washing machine. “Get it yourself!”
A few moments later Aiba came walked past Nino to the utility room where Jun is. He’s wearing a pair of yellow rubber glove on both his hands, and his rolled up pants is slightly damp.
“Masaki! Don’t walk in the corridor with your foot wet! I just mopped it!” Sho whined.
“Sorry, sorry!” Aiba grinned at the older man and tip-toed back to the bathroom after getting a large bottle of detergent from Jun, trying to leave the least amount of water on the floor. A while later Jun too walked out of the utility room with a basket of washed sheets and went straight to the backyard to hang them dry. He nodded his head guiltily to Sho as he walked across the corridor.
Sho sighed. He rest his arm on the wooden stick and wipe his sweaty forehead. Then he cleaned up the mess that Aiba left.
“Sho-chan, what should I do with this old newspaper?” Ohno called out from the living room. Sho craned his neck to see the newspaper that Ohno hold up.
“Does it have highlights on it?” He asked.
The oldest man opened the papers and scanned through it. “Nope!” He said.
“Throw it away then.” Sho continued with his mopping. He still needs to clean the second floor corridor and the front door.
“Be careful with my consoles!” Nino yelled as he scraped a burned out marshmallow from the griller, most probably caused by Aiba.
“I know, I know.” Ohno said lightly while running a damp towel across the gaming machines. He stack up Nino’s gaming software alphabetically and according to its consoles. He put the magazines on the rack, and cleared up the mess on the coffee table.
Most of the time they don’t talk during cleaning. Each is too absorbed in their chores, although sometimes words of complaint can be heard from Nino or Sho. The sound of Jun beating the futon on the second floor joins the sound of kids playing outside on the bright Sunday morning.
“Whoa!”
They all turned their heads to the direction on the bathroom.
“Masaki, are you okay?” Asked Sho who’s now swiping the floor of the front door.
“Did you slip on the floor again?”
Ohno is already up and ready to check on the younger man until Aiba popped his head out with a grin. “I’m fine guys. No worries!”
Nino clicked his tongue, “That guy...”

Two and a half hours later, the gas range are shining bright, the trashes are out, the living room is free of dusts, floors sparkling, bathroom and toilet smelling like pine tree, and the sheets are lined up neatly waiting to be dried by winter sunray.
Nino laid face up on the couch, one foot raised, resting on the back of the couch. “My arm..” He said weakly. That burned up marshmallow on the griller takes ages to remove. Sho sit on the floor beside him, head laid on Nino’s waist. “My back hurts. I hate mopping.” He said with a pout.
While Ohno and Aiba both splayed on the carpeted floor, damp cloth and rubber gloves beside them. “I’m hungry.” Said Ohno, followed by the growling sound of his stomach.
“Jun-tan, fooood...” Nino said with a whine.
The model came up from behind the couch and leaned his lithe body on the back of it. “I’m too tired to cook. Wanna order?”
“I want burger then.”
“Ramen.”
“Chahan.”
“Pizza.”
Jun rolled his eyes. “We’re ordering from the Chinese restaurant down the block.”
Food came half an hour later. They eat in the living room while watching daytime TV shows. Ohno warned them to be careful not to drop anything because he just cleaned them. While Jun worried more about Aiba spilling ramen soup onto his carpet on the coffee table. Some time in between, Sho took up the initiative to check if the sheets are already dry. He came moments later with a basket of flowery smelled clean sheets. Ohno helped him fold them up. Nino helped Ohno hold the edges of it so it won’t touch the floor while remain sitting on the comfy couch.
Without even realizing it, the clock already turned 2PM so Jun stood up from the couch and said, “Come on, guys. Let’s take the futon.”
Ohno grabbed the remote and turn off the TV. Some of them did some light stretching before getting up, following Jun to the second floor balcony. They took their own futon and set it back to their bed themselves and cover it with fresh new sheets that Jun placed on each of their beds earlier.
Just when Jun is done slipping the sheets edges neatly under his futon, Aiba came running from behind him and jumped on his bed.
“Hey!”
The man pressed his face to the sheet and sniffed it. “Hmm..I love the combination of clean sheets and the scent of sunrays.” He smiled.
“Your bed smells the same too, you know. Stop messing with mine!”
“But Jun-tan’s bed smells nicer.” Aiba now grabbed a pillow and sets himself comfortably on the younger man’s bed.
Jun didn’t have the heart to drag him out. Not when the zoo keeper has now closed his eyes and smiling contently to the pillow. So he too decided to lie down beside him. Then Sho showed up on his door, yawning. He walked with dragging steps and as soon as his foot touches the edge of Jun’s bed, he dropped his body down the soft mattress, bouncing Jun and Aiba on the impact.
“Why, Sho? Why??” Jun groaned.
But Sho just chuckled and pushed himself up so his head is lying on the pillow between Jun and Aiba. And Jun didn’t even need to open his eyes to know that Ohno is already standing on the bedside.
“No.” He grumbled to the pillow. But the artist just scooted him to the right, pressing Jun more to Sho’s back and Sho to Aiba’s chest.
It took Nino three minutes to figure out where the other four is. “Scoot, guys.” He said from the end of the bed. But since no one would do it, and Nino’s getting impatient because his eyes are getting heavier, he climbed up the bed and jumped up and down slightly, rocking the mattress. “Guuuys..”
They all moaned. Finally Sho moved closer to Aiba, and Ohno wrapped his arms around Jun’s waist to pull the youngest man closer to him. Seeing at the space in the middle, Nino slipped in. He lay on his side, facing Jun.
“Otsukaresama deshita.” He said to the model.
Jun scoffed, eyes still closed. “Otsukare.”
“Thanks for the hard work, guys!” Nino said it again, this time for Ohno, Aiba, and Sho.
“Thank you all.”
“Thanks for the hard work.”
“Otsukare.”
And with one final word said, they enjoyed the smell of new sheets mixed with winter wind, warm futon under their tired body, and slept through the evening.
Author's note:
Sorry, I'm usually againts adding Japanese words to an English-based fanfics like 'sugoi' or 'kawaii'. But I really don't know how to properly translate 'Otsukaresama deshita', same case with 'Itadakimasu.'
So for those of you who doesn't understand, 'Otsukaresama deshita' is a phrase said after a work is done to your colleagues as a form of appreciation of their hard work. 'Otsukare' is just an abbreviation, said to a colleague of your equal, not proper to be used with your superior.
