Cynicism (reflection and a lesson)

I could just let this clip stand and say that this is quite profound, and I'm not really surprised that it came from Henry Rollins, who, just really kicks ass. Very intelligent, insightful, and funny too. (link is Not Safe For Work due to a lot of swearing)

I kinda disagree that cynicism is a waste of time. I'm brutally cynical about larger societal things, such as politics, the economy, and the stupidity of crowds. I've been right (along with the rest of us liberal activists) way, way too much the last 20 years or so. Too often things ARE predestined to suck because the Powers That Be want them to.

BUT, cynicism IS a complete waste of time when it comes to *individual people*. Yeah, there's alot of chaff among the crowd, but there's plenty of golden wheat there, too, if you give folks the benefit of the doubt and try and find it. And building communities, flocks if you will, are the best armor you can possibly have against the hard times.
