Best Comments Section Introduction

Stumbled upon a link to The Big Picture blog (http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/). I'm not a usual follower of it, but I just love the introduction to the comments section. This is just too perfect....

Yes, I admit to much the same, though I did see an interesting one on trying to dissect various aspects of the market crash, but overall yeah, that intro to the comments was about the best thing.

Pity it stumbles quite so clumsily at the end! It's hardly anonymity, or pseudonymity, which leads to people being assholes - if that were the case, Facebook would be the very model of idyllic 50s sensibilities. =:D

I think its more the aspect that you don't have to argue to the other person's face. Even using a RL name, the dickish-ness quotient seems to be in inverse proportion to the chance of having to argue with a real person face to face. I don't know if its the subtle threat of enraging someone so much that they get violent or more just the fact that a profile is much easier to dehumanize (my guess is the latter)
