It killed my boiler too.

freeking cold in here, I've had to turn on the oven for a bit.

It looks like I'll have to get someone in here and replace the damn thing -- it is over 30 years old.

I hope i can get financing.

I hope you can get someone to fix it, and some funds for it. Is there anything financially they will do for winter hardship sort of things?

What about asking on the FoF list to see if you know anyone who does any of that sort of work? If you can get away with only having to pay for parts, that would help.

HEAP helps alot for emergency stuff, but one of their suggestions is to use electric heaters. I know you're smart enough to be wary of that.

Why couldn't this happen on those two days when it was warm?
Anyway....

Don't forget lighting copious amounts of candles really does help warm a room, not a large one but it helps. It's what we do when we lose power.

If you need warmer/dryer/higher ground to escape to, you are *always* welcome here.
