This is how to get from the hotel to the H/D meet-up! You will pass by the Art Institute (two stone lions guarding the front... how appropriate!) and then you will see two, tall weird fountains depicting people's faces... children will probably be running around and it's hard to miss. In the distance there'll be a big silver bean. You'll be looking ( Read more... )

Wow, you are the best...we're coming in on the Metra, so this will be a big help.

Me, too... I live 5 minutes away from a Metra stop, so it's all very convenient, haha. Which line are you taking? Double check that it ends up at the LaSalle St. Station, because there are several Metra lines... some end up at Union Station!

Thanks, yes, at first I was thinking I was coming in at Union Station (not sure why, but I guess it was the familiarity with the name), but I'm coming from New Lenox on the Rock Island line.

I'm just not sure how it will be, walking with luggage, from the station. It doesn't look far, but I plan on bringing my laptop which will get heavy after a while, plus I have my 9 year old son. I'm sure I'll end up having to carry his luggage too. And 16 pounds of chocolate for 150 goodie bags!

I might see you on the train! I'll be getting on at the 99th St. Station. =)

I don't think it's much of a walk, but then I've been hauling my suitcase around major European cities for a month this summer, so I guess I'm seasoned for this kind of thing, haha. Taxis are always an option - it would probably only be a few bucks from any of these stations!

Hey, the LaSalle Blue Line station is NOT elevated. It is a subway. It will drop you off near Congress and LaSalle. You also may not have much luck finding a taxi there. It's a very busy street that feeds to the expressway. I used to work in the vicinity and if I needed to get a taxi I usually had to walk 1-2 blocks north to the loop. It also, iirc, is not open late at night (after 9:00pm, I believe). I'd get off at JACKSON instead (if you want a taxi ( ... )

So Harrison's the closest stop to the hotel, right? I've never gone to the Hilton Chicago before.

Also, is Monroe the closest stop to Millennium Park? That's where I got off at the Taste, but for some reason I remember getting off on the other side of Millennium Park last time I went.

Yes, Harrison (on the Red Line) is the closest stop.

The Lake Street Red Line stop is closer to the Pritzger pavilion. But they're really only a block apart. The Lake/Washington stop is the one that is connected to the basement of Marshall Fields.

Travelers can then proceed two block east to Michigan and then turn left to Balbo (south).

I suck at directions. Correction:

Travelers can then proceed two block east to Michigan and then turn right to Balbo (south).

Not left. Turning left would head you north. Dur.
