I, too, can be shallow.

First things first, I finally put a new layout up at terra. It's based off one of thrashmetal's, which was in turn based off the layout at typesites. It's also based of, y'know, Opal, which would be a nice style if everything weren't wrong with it ever. And by everything, I mean the sidebar. I'm probably going to fiddle around with it some, and maybe even see ( Read more... )

metaphors that go on too long, i mean it's lj how hard could it be, when memes attack!, final fantasy vi

I HATE TINY TEXT IN LAYOUTS. That's up there with, like, light-gray-on-white and the Papyrus font (for which I harbor an irrational hatred for beyond even that of Comic Sans MS).

I actually have a terrible, terrible love of Opal and I don't even know why. I fondly remember spending two days to get an old Opal layout working properly, back before I became too lazy to make my own layouts.

DO YOU ALSO LOATHE PAPYRUS?? Because every time I see that font on a restaurant menu or similar I really don't want to eat there. Get it away. Get it away.

Oh, I think Opal has potential, but it takes a lot to make it look good.

IT IS MY LEAST FAVORITE FONT EVER. A friend of mine did some kind of portfolio project for class with that font once and I didn't talk to him for a week afterwards, I hate it that much.

PS: I have discovered that writing Nash-in-Ivalice is a very good time-waster between calls at work, so there may be some of that forthcoming this weekend.

Why can't we just eliminate it from people's computers. It's just giving people the tools to their own self-destruction.

FFF, yes Nash-in-Ivalice my very favorite crossover.

I'm weird. I'm totally bitter that they all but disabled S1 support (I can't even center shit anymore), but I'm kind of elitist about layouts. Graphical ability is hardly relevant to actual journal content, but I tend to shy away from people with really ugly layouts when I'm creepishly journal stalking. Because I'm a bitch. :| S2 layouts are just more attractive, but it's so scary and complicated that I just try to emulate the look without actually learning it. My point? Uhhh. I don't have one. New layout is looking nice so far. I love that you can take really obnoxious colors and make them look fantabulous.

Oh god, ffrants. Agreed. Agreed on every fucking point. Half the posts I'm just like WTF ARE YOU SERIOUSLY BITCHING ABOUT THAT? because I read such rarities, that my main complaint about most fandoms is almost always OH GOD WRITE, PLEASE GOD WRITE SOMETHING.

It's a game where a multi-part opera sequence with shifting points of view and costumed high theatrics can be derailed by a giant talking octopus. That's just how it rolls.I ( ... )

I was really angry about the switch to S2, because I've been here long enough that I used to customize in S1, but I suppose I dealt. Certainly, S1 is a lot more intuitive, and relies less on CSS chicanery because there are like five people in the world who understand custom layers.

Obnoxious colors are totally just stolen from Cecil's FFIVa fieldsprite.

I do like how they had to put a temporary ban on raperants. That sounds like the FFR I know and, well, don't exactly love.

I've been using the same S1 template for about five years now. I just swap bits around, add sidebars occasionally, change up the colors and shift it all over the place, but imagine my surprise when I found it just wouldn't center anymore last time I tried to make a layout. Why take that out? Taking fuctionality out of a dead system seems like extra effort. Just leave it be and let it collect dust, you know? I think I'm just going to have to learn S2, and I'm not happy about having to figure out all new CSS tricks to override.

I think you've actually told me that about before, but it doesn't make it any less awesome. And just proves how flamboyant Cecil is.

I wish they would do a permaban on typo rants. I don't even care how boring they are, it's the Schoolhouse Rock ones that piss me off. Dude, the crowd you are pandering to with that there/they're/their spelling lesson are a bunch of writing elitists to begin with. We don't need you to give us grammar lessons. Go take it up with the fic author in question and stfu.

Yeah, why would they disable S1 functions slowly over time. Especially functions like centering. That doesn't even make sense. Those wacky Russians.

Well, yes, it does little to make Cecil seem subtle.

Very much so. It's not as though screwing up homonyms once means that the writer doesn't know the difference. Also, it's not easy to get beta readers. Easily corrected typos are the most minor of sins.

And hahah, the things I would actually rant about there I won't, because I know the major perpetrators are frequent posters there. Ooooops.

Yeah, I generally customize layouts even when I get premade ones. I just shouldn't have to customize your layout to make the text legible. Cecil is very manly I don't know what you're talking about.

Nobody likes poor clippy :(

I hate hate hate trying to make/fix/pummel-into-submission LJ layouts and I'm always extremely jealous of people who've conquered the S2. Yours looks damn good. I like that when my mouse wandered over the header, it turned from yellow to red... like that stoplight I accidentally blew.

I'm still really guilty about that, obviously.

I actually designed this layout specifically so that it would make you feel guilty.

All the colors in the layout are ganked from Cecil's fieldsprite. He is made of tasty flavors!!

He would probably be much more nutritious than Clippy.

OH ACTUALLY have you played the DS mini-games like where Kain has to jump really high?? I was probably doing that. But on the moon.
