I was grateful for your message, though saddened by this news. Scott and I never met, but planned to when I next came to Boston.

I was wondering if I could add you as an LJ friend?

Hello. I am so sorry I barged in like that with bad news. I just learned myself when I posted to you. I received an e-mail from Scott on March 17 stating he was recovering, and his best friend hit reply all yesterday to relay the sad news.

It feels very unreal for me still. I am going to miss him.

Yes, of course you can add me.

Thanks for letting me know. I had the pleasure of spending time with Scott last time I was in Boston, and he was such a good-humored, witty and intelligent dinner companion. I noticed he'd been quiet since February, but he's been quiet before so I didn't think much of it. I'm very sad to hear this news.

I am sorry you had to find out like that. I think your description here captures Scott's mien and I am glad you took the time to write him a farewell in your own journal.

I still can't believe it. Except for that sinking feeling I have inside.

Thank you again for letting us (and me individually) know. And again I'm stunned. He was my age, based on his high school and college graduation dates. It never even occurred to me to wonder if something terrible had happened when I stopped seeing his posts. I will miss him.

I'm sorry I couldn't find a better way to let you know. I share your disbelief as he was his witty and emptahetic self the last time I talked to him.

I will miss him very much too.

The annoying thing about the internet allowing us to get to know so many people, is that we also get to feel losses we would not otherwise have felt.

*hugs*

Hey you. I wouldn't go without having known Scott.

And yes, the loss is real even if geography worked against the friendship.
