I will let it look over (beta reading) after I get hold of Hisoka.
Sara looked down at the man who shared his bed. His long fingers brushed through the soft, brown hair, drawing small pattern on Alford´s forehead which was finally free of any sign of sorrow. The hero was sleeping peaceful, nothing seemed to disturb his nightly escape to a world which he called home.
The king´s room was warm enough to go without clothing but Alford always insisted that they should dress for bed even when they had made love with each other. However could somebody really call it lovemaking when one of them was doing this only to get away from the loneliness in his heart?
Saralegui looked out of the window, watching the peaceful world outside. His world not Alford´s. Saralegui wasn´t blind and he wasn´t stupid either he had noticed the small changed in Alford´s behavior. How he was looking outside at the horizon with a lost look in his eyes and how he screwed his eyes shut when he found release, biting on his lips to stop himself from calling out the wrong name.
But there was no fault in Alford´s doing. The young human had successful talked himself into it that his friendly caring for his charge was love and acted on it. And Sara had been unable to stop Alford and to correct his thinking. Conrad had talked with Sara already, questioning him and giving him the advice that Sara would pay a high price for this pretended love. The blond knew that already. But he couldn´t let Alford wallow in his pain alone. What was a broken heart against the pain which his one true love was feeling? They weren´t together for long and Sara felt a bit guilty as it seemed that he had seduced Alford over a long time. Even when this wasn´t the blond man´s intention.
Alford moved beside him turning away on the other side, away from the young king, mumbling Conrad´s name in his sleep. Sara bowed his head and took his hand away, moving silently out of their shared bed. Tara had joined Yozak in his sleep, to Conrad´s displeasure. He watched that the blanket was covering Alford. You could never know if somebody would fall ill from a cold air draft.
Saralegui heard a small noise and turned his head, his golden eyes caught side of a shadow. "Conrad," he whispered. The shadow moved more in the light and Sara saw his first watcher standing there with an unreadable expression on his face. Sara looked back at Alford before he moved over to his other watcher. Conrad took Sara in his arms without saying a word, petting his hair gently. "Walk with me a little?" Conrad requested with a soft whisper. Sara nodded and picked up his cape before they walked out of the room. Alford would be asleep for a while.
The moon stood high at the night sky. The stars greeted the two figures which walked silently through the royal gardens. "Sara, I know we were over this already but I don´t deem it wise what you are doing. You can help him only so far and it´s not fair against yourself. Alford is a nice young man, he is training hard and is trying to please you but you aren´t the one he wants to hold at night. It doesn´t matter what he is telling you or is thinking what it should be." Sara knew that already, he didn´t need Conrad to speak it out.
"I know," Sara whispered. He had long given up to cry over his situation that even after six long years Alford still wanted to go home. However the heavy feeling in his heart was still there. Sara could understand Alford´s wish to go home. There he had a lover which he really loved, a family, a feeling to belong there. Here he had only Sara as a distraction, Yozak and Tara who were bothering him and Conrad who tried to help Alford to adjust as a watcher and Chang who was trying to teach him the basics in surviving this world.
"Sara," Conrad stopped the young man with his hand on Sara´s shoulder. "You are destroying your own dream with your doing. The moments you two have together might be sweet and everything you ever wanted but what are with all the times you are sitting there and watch Alford fade away, when he is thinking at somebody else? You are hurting. Giving up your body to him is not helping anymore. Don´t do this to yourself."
"Conrad, why do we have this conversation? Is there a reason?" Sara looked up at his watcher.
Conrad smirked a little, "I can´t keep secrets from you,Sara." Conrad´s gentle fingertips caressed his face. "Sara, I got a monkey mail from Anissina today. She wanted to talk with me about something important. She told me that Alford was at her place and......begged her to find a way back home. She wasn´t sure what to make out of it. In the past Anissina had already tried to find a way to bring you back to us and didn´t succeed. So the other way around would not be possible either."
Sara felt cold, suddenly so cold. Was it so bad already that Alford would step down to begging? He felt something unfamiliar exploring in his chest, something which poked at his reflex to run.
"Sara, I´m sorry. I talked with Anissina and Yozak about it. We thought it would be better to tell you this. I´m the last person who doesn´t want to see you happy. I love you," Conrad pulled Sara close again, holding him tightly against his chest.
"Please, bring me back to my room." Sara said hoarsely. "Sara..." Conrad started but was stopped from the blond with a finger against his mouth.
Sara ended back in his room with a sleeping Alford in his bed. Sara watched him the rest of the night as he sat by the window, thinking about the past, present and future.
The morning sun was already greeting the new day as Alford finally drifted out of sleep. The human was a bit confused at first why Sara wasn´t lying beside him as he turned his head and saw his charge sitting at the window. The light framed his small body like a halo. He smiled at his charge. "Good morning, Sara. Why are you sitting over there instead of cuddling up with me?" Sara smiled at his usual greeting.
"I was thinking." Sara didn´t move away from his current sitting place. "Alford,do you want to go home?" Alford was surprised at this question. Had he done something last night that Sara would ask such a question? "Sara, I...." He felt sorry for the young king. It must look as if he was ungrateful for Sara´s love and friendliness.
"It´s ok. You don´t need to say it. Next week is my birthday. I will see if Samana grant me a wish to this special day. The magical flow is stronger at this day and you might be able to get back to your world then." Alford sat up, for one second hope shone in his eyes. Then his eyes narrowed, "Sara,....would it hurt you? Take you memories away again or other things?" Sara shook his head. "I don´t think that Samana would hurt me..." Sara stood up and joined Alford on the bed. His watcher hesitated before he embraced the king. "Thank you, Sara. Thank you very much. I´m sorry that I hurt you like that. It wasn´t my intention."
"I know, don´t worry. I know this already."
The following days were spend in a rush which was unusual for the palace. The preparation for the twins´ birthday was in a full swing. Sara spent the most time in solitary in the inner sanctum of the temple. Praying to Samana and preparing for Alford´s return to his world. The blond man had already his answer of Samana and his wish would be granted for a price.
In the evening before his birthday, Sara sat again by the window, looking outside and watching the clouds moving over the sky. Alford had been there a minute ago. The human had been nervous, even a bit guilty feeling. But Sara hoped that he had managed to calm him down again before he had send him away to sleep in his own room for once. This was the Sara´s world, the king was safe and noting would harm in his home. Alford shouldn´t worry so much.
The door opened carefully and his last guest stepped into his room. Conrad. The blond turned to his first watcher, a sad smile on his lips. "Did you read my letter?" Conrad nodded. "Are you sure you want to do it?" "Ah, Alford wants to go home. And Samana said yes to my wish. But you know her, nothing comes without a price."
Conrad walked over to Sara and lifted him up easily in his arms before he let them down together on the king size bed. Sara was touched by Conrad´s action and chuckled. "It will be over soon. We have still a whole life together. What is there 100 years or not?" The king said.
"A time without our little sunshine," Conrad tried to lighten the mood. They lay like this the rest of the night. Not noticing that Alford was waiting outside of the room. He was happy that he could get home soon but at the same time he was sad that he would let Sara behind. The blond king had done a lot for him and he hadn´t be able to give it back, to love Sara as much as the king was loving him.
The day of the big feast came fast and with a lot of duties. The whole kingdom was celebrating the twins´ birthday. Only as Sara was preparing the ritual for Alford´s return to his world was he able to take a few breaths. It was late already and Sara had asked for Alford´s presence in half a hour. Just enough time to calm himself down and to see his love off, back to a world where he couldn´t reach him.
to be continue.....
