Hi! that's actually not dissimiliar to what I was hoping to do in WV. I have a full-time job there with a watershed restoration group for the next two years, but my plan for my off-hours has been to find a piece of cheap land that has been blighted by careless owners (i.e. has dump sites or tumbling structures), ecologically damaged by conventional agriculture, or affected by mine pollution. I'd then spend my two years (and maybe then some) doing some experimental permaculture work to try to bring it back to life. I did some work on a natural bioremedation project in New Orleans this spring, so this kind of thing is at least somewhat familiar and really exciting to me -- but a lot of the permaculture stuff is still new to my world. Without lots of experience or being sure that I can invest more than two years of part-time work in the project, I'm nervous about taking on a site that has been totally devastated. But something like that might be further down the road ( ... )
