And now for KNITTING posts! Can you tell I'm on vacation now?
I just spent a little over an hour trying to finish up my
Baby Norgi sweater:
Yeah, Mom machine-stitched the steek reinforcements back on SPRING BREAK in APRIL and not till now have I got around to actually cutting the steeks and sewing in the sleeves. Well, A sleeve, anyway. I got the left steek cut, the shoulder seam sewn, and sewed in the sleeve. I still have to stitch down the facing on the inside of the seam, but it can wait. The colors of this sweater are gorgeous, but that dark background yarn? in tiny tiny stitches made on size 1 needles? Oh my goodness, it takes forever to do a seam on those stitches because I CANNOT SEE THEM. Brand new glasses and everything, sitting by a window for the best light in the house, and still those stitches are impossible. So I have been fuming over this seam for over an hour, just to sew in ONE little 4-inch wide sleeve, and that is all I can take for today. (Somebody please stop me if I ever again cast on for a project that involves seaming in a dark colored sock-weight or lighter yarn. This is insane.)
So, still not finished with the Baby Norgi sweater. I want to get the sleeves done so I can knit on the neckband and get this thing out of the UFO collection, although it doesn't have to be finished till Christmas - will give it to Owen then. It's the 18 month size of the pattern so it should fit him great over the winter. I'm working on matching
socks (a.k.a. another way of avoiding the steeking/seaming bit) but need to get the sweater's neckband finished first to make sure I have enoug of the navy yarn. I can order more of it but if I do that and end up with a different dye lot, I want the new dye lot to go into the socks, not around the collar!
Also, having finished my at-school sock knitting projects, a pair of
blue striped socks for me (matching a pair I made for
Mom at Christmas) and a
matching pair for Owen out of the leftover yarn (which, for a change, are too LONG on his feet instead of too short):
I decided it was time to cast on a new pair of socks. I still have the
Bayerische socks to work on (now knitting sock #2):
But that requires attention to pattern and I like to have a simpler project on the needles for Netflix knitting. :-) So I cast on
Nine-to-Five Socks in Regia 4ply:
Looking at this point like they might come out too big on me (I'm using smaller needles than called for, but it's supposed to make size 8 or 9 socks and I'm size 6.5 or 7...), so these might be gifts for someone or other. :-) I love the yarn, but it's a nice subdued colorway so maybe a good men's sock...
Recently completed knitting includes some Red items made for Fishers HS's silent auction for Relay for Life. They all sold, so yay. :-)
The
hat says "Fishers Tigers" and the
scarves are
fluffy. I also finished these
dishcloths that were my at-school knitting and put them in the auction:
And I don't think I've blogged yet about this
hat made for Arcus' birthday:
His Latin name is knitted around the brim.
I made a second version of my
baby pi blanket, this one for my cousins David & Mica's soon to be born baby, Macy:
Finally, a couple of projects patiently waiting for me to get on with them...I've been working since last summer on the
Scheherazade Shawl:
Like the Bayerische Socks, this one requires attention to charts so about the only time I work on it is...when I would also work on the Bayerische socks, and they've been getting chosen over the shawl lately because I want to get them finished and free up the sock needles. :-)
Also, a sweater for me, the
Simple Knitted Bodice:
Not all that simple at the moment. I got to the point where the pattern calls for joining the fronts and separating off the stitches for sleeves; so far so good. But then it calls to begin the lace band for the waist, and, um, having begun it there and tried the sweater on (hooray for top-down raglan sweaters that you can try on as you go!), it seems to think it's a BUST band not a WAIST band. :-) So I am trying to figure out how to work in some bust shaping so the lace will actually go where it belongs. I have a general idea of what to do but am not sure if I want short-row horizontal bust darts or vertical bust darts done with decreases. Actually, I think my bust needs a little of each, and I'm trying to figure out the math for how to do that. Can't quite visualize what I want it to do yet. So that's stalled while I try to figure it out.
