Challenge 12: The five senses. Which would be the worst one for me to lose, and why?

All the senses are extremely important to a Dragon, and highly acute. I shall consider them .

Touch might not seem at first so important; but without this sense, I could not feel the currents of the air against my wings, which would be a serious disadvantage in flight. And if I could not feel anything of my environment, whether on solid ground or in the sky, whether hot nor cold, dry nor wet... no, this would not be a good sense to lose, after all.

To me, the senses of Taste and Smell are indistinguishable. They are most important, for with them I scent out prey, or enemies who lurk close by; and most enjoyable, too. Ahhh the bittersweet taste of Elven flesh, a rare delicacy; the rank, meaty odour of Orc; the earthiness and good eating of a Dwarf. Men are perhaps the best; soft and juicy, the meat just melts from the bones, especially when charred... but, I digress *grins*

Hearing I require to catch those who would attempt to sneak up on me unawares; we Dragons are plagued by thieves and heroes who seek our treasure, or our very lives! Even if I were blind, I could listen for the telltale movements around me, and so act upon them. But it would be difficult to hunt using this sense alone, unless I were to lower myself to the art of waiting in ambush for rats and rabbits!

Sight is therefore perhaps the most important of my senses, for without my eyes I could neither fly nor hunt, and would soon starve even if I did not fall prey to my enemies. For this alone I might say that it would be the worst loss; but really I could not afford to be without any of my senses.

I live wild and alone, unable (and unwilling!) to rely on the help of others, and I must protect myself and survive with no tools but the natural abilities of my form. This makes me powerful and self sufficient, but fitness in such a way of living is paramount. Things are different for you mortals, surrounded by your inventions and social structure; you can more easily afford to lose your senses, but then, they are dulled beyond use from lack of reliance, and so you would likely never miss them!
