His hearing sharpened by the pounding of his head, he fancies he hears a faint whisper of laughter on the breeze, as though even the fading stars of dawn make mock of him. He cocks a baleful eye to the heavens, then grins, thinking privately to himself about a certain travelling star that is no longer what it seems; the lodestar of his Elvish enemies, shining down now with the tainted light of an imposter.
"Oh, I'm still here, Smaug." Loki says, almost cheerfully, from nearby. "Been wondering if a kegful of aspirin would help with the headache you are undoubtably experiencing at the moment. But yes, let's deal with this 'unfinished business'."
He carefully pats the dragon's side, "And of course you'll be taken seriously, after all, you only had one witness to last night's....display."
*Sighs* I hope you are right, friend Loki, although I wonder sometimes if I am not watched; just as I watch others through the agency of my Orb. Well, there is nothing I can do about it if they do! *He winces slightly* What is this "aspirin" of which you speak? If there is anything which can help quieten this din of carousing dwarves within my brain, I would be glad of it!
Now, as to unfinished business... Although this gift has turned out to bear teeth, I believe that it was well meant, and I am sorry I did not awake in time to greet the little Hobbit maiden. Perhaps, had we spoken, she might even have instructed me in a kinder usage of her drink. Well, in any event, I promised her a small gratuity for her devotion, and I would not have it said of Smaug that he is a Dragon without honour.
Loki, you are a being of many powers, not constrained by the limits of the physical world. Since her departure, glints_on_snow has gone far from here, and into lands where my arrival would not be taken kindly. Would you, friend Loki, be so kind as to bring
( ... )
Loki turns this over in his mind, "I don't see why not." He flashes the dragon a smile, "As to the aspirin, it's a medicine, pain-killer, it has its beginnings in the bark of the willow tree."
*Looks around, but there are no willow trees here, if there ever were... the moor is a bleak, inhospitable place filled with nothing taller than scraggly heather and gorse*
Never mind, I am sure it will pass... *winces* Thank you for agreeing to fetch Diamond. I hope she likes her present! *grins in a not entirely innocent manner*
