Anime News Network is adding a video player and dedicated video section to their website. Good for them, and good for the troubled American anime industry, as this video channel will be ad-supported to generate revenue for the content providers (unlike fansub distributing sites like Crunchyroll, which I won't even give the courtesy of linking to).

Yeah, Funimation conquering the US anime industry pretty much instantaneously surprised the heck out of me. I hope they handle the release schedule properly to avoid flooding the market and shooting themselves in the foot. It'll be interesting.

And yeah, and ANN video channel is a really cool idea. Can't wait to see how well it does.

I haven't really checked in with them to find out, but the AODers have got to be going nuts. Most of them hate Funimation's DVD encoding, as their bit-rates and overall picture quality are cheap compared to a Geneon or Bandai (and especially the erstwhile Bandai Visual USA, now absorbed into regular-Bandai as their "Honneamise" label).
