Summary: Blair modeled Jenny after Serena for a reason.
Notes: Slight S1 spoilers but nothing major.
The reason Blair had chosen Jenny as her beta, the newest member of her group was as simple as it was unexpected.
She looked like Serena.
With every move, every glance, those piercing blue eyes followed you tranquilly, yet magnificently capturing the pure essence of innocence, though Jenny's innocence ran significantly deeper than Serena's.
The girl was an absolute charmer, as pretty as she was smart, and rumored to be as up in coming in the ranks as Blair herself had been as a meek and meager freshman. Blair had liked that about her. Smart and pretty, something that was increasingly more difficult to find these days. So she had recruited her. Her and her piercing blue eyes, misleading blonde waves.
But Jenny captured her innocence much more easily than Serena had. Jenny showed a sort of loyal respect and discipline that Serena had never quite understood. Jenny was trainable, Serena was not.
Blair loved those qualities about Jenny, her young appearance and those ridiculous handmade clothes she wore. If she hadn't seen the poor girl's apartment she would never had known that she was from Brooklyn, the brother of a lonely poet.
But Jenny had proved that she was able to do everything Blair had wanted and more. The sleep over had went unexpectedly well, Blair had known well to set high expectations for the girl. She was a true artist. She'd stolen the jacket and made clever excuses for doing such in remarkable time, catching Blair's attention on purpose and now Blair realized something important about Jenny.
She wasn't Serena.
She wasn't sleazy or wasted, she wasn't barely passing her classes, she wasn't stealing Blair's attention, and she was faithful, loyal, impossibly lovely in her obvious youth, so begging to be turned into something Blair had always wanted: a true beta. Jenny was perfect, about to be sculpted into something so very much like Blair herself: not only manipulative and strong, but also beautiful in ways unattainable unless you knew how Blair's mind worked. She would be wonderful. Her one and only conquest, she supposed.
Though when she looked back on this she wondered if she'd ever wanted Jenny to be like herself. Why, she could be so much more.
So when Blair had finally been dethroned by one of her own it couldn't have been more expected by anyone but Blair herself. Jenny had proved herself, turned into the very thing Blair had wanted her to turn into. A monster. She had turned into a replica of Serena as Blair had wanted her to all along.
In the end, Blair mussed, there could only be one Serena. And Jenny was not her.
