So I finally bowed to the not so subtle pressure of actually keeping in touch with everyone while 7000 miles away. Hence an update on my life: having survived the chaggim, I am spending my mornings at the CY learning Talmud, and my afternoons at Alyn (Israel's only pediatric rehab hospital). Yes, it's spreading! My housemates are reading Gaudy Night too. :D

Was this a truly wonderful but socially dense supervisor, or was that tact?

Oh, no. That was sarcasm: she was atrocious. An example: We had a shelf in the big toy closet where we kept the adult scissors, staplers and other things the kids needed supervision to work with. She had put a cup of tea on the shelf. One of the older kids went into the closet for the tape, and accidentally spilled the tea all over her hands. Rather than immediately rushing her to the the sink to cool off her hands, my supervisor sat there and yelled at her until I grabbed the kid and ran with her to the bathroom to rinse off her hands and stop the burning. I had gotten her calmed down -- she was pretty upset, more because of the scolding than anything else, and put some ointment on her hands. When we got back to the classroom my supervisor started in on her again. While its true the girl should not have been going into the closet without asking, thats not the way you handle an accident like that. What really pissed me off was when I wanted to fill out an accident report (ie tell the parents) she wouldn't let me even though its the ( ... )
