No real words

How many people have to be shot before there is gun regulation? Thankful for quick-thinking teachers, praying for all the parents and children, and for the first responders. What a horrible thing. I hope I'm never so hardened so as not to weep for the loss of life. If that is coherent.

Bless you all.

Guns are not really the issue (although I am not opposed to regulation) but rather the breakdown in our society. In countries, such as Switzerland, every male is required to have a rifle (semi-automatic, military) in his possession and ready to go at a moments notice. Notice the low crime rate in Switzerland. We, sadly, go about killing each other with all sorts of means. Actual homicides are higher with blades than with guns (had to look that one up as I didn't believe it when I originally read it.) We kill each other with cars much more frequently than guns. And Jim Jones killed an awful lot of women and children with kool-ade. And what about the guy that blew up the building in Arizona with all the agricultural fertilizer? Or the person who released Saran gas in the subway system? It isn't the means, but rather the dissolution of morality and responsibility. I don't care if you believe in a Higher Power or are a Rational Empiricist, until we return to teaching respect for others, this sort of thing will continue, gun control ( ... )

I think your stats aren't accurate ---gun deaths outweigh car deaths. And car deaths are prosecuted. There is no sane reason for someone to own an assault weapon other than mi,Italy or law enforcement.

I will admit my stats could be off, I can't check everything anymore than anyone else. But the issue is that people kill people with all sorts of methods. I am not opposed to regulation, background checks whatever for gun ownership. But if you want to take out your mad on someone, one method is as good as another, the end result is an innocent life snuffed out. The 2nd Amendment guarantees the right of the people to bear arms. The Kentucky Long Rifle was the assault weapon of its day. They were common as dirt among the population and yet they were seldom used as murder weapons (mind you, not never.) I still say the issue isn't the weapon but the lack of teaching of ethics and responsibility to our children. We are failing them and while they are bleeding out we are pretending this band-aid will make it all better. Make guns harder to get, especially assault weapons if you will. But both my sons, husband and I enjoy target shooting and one of the guns we use is an AR-15. When I was younger I shot a bow and I assure you I could ( ... )
