A Cat in need of a Home

I just received this e-mail from one of my co-workers - a good fellow who has recently welcomed his first child into his home:

"This is my attempt to interest you in taking our cat. I know you have two of your own. So if you know of someone who would take a fluffy cat you could pass this along too

How recently? It is rarely necessary to get rid of a cat for a new baby unless there are alergies. It takes up to a month for cats to integrate with eachother. I think a baby would be similar.
Going to a new home would be more traumatic than adjusting to this change.
I understand the impulse though.
