I'd never studied about him before, so it was a surprise to read that he was not only a dandy, but a bawdy writer, and a Jew who called himself nominally a Christian. ;-)

Ah, see, and here I thought I was just imagining the pirate-mania when I went shopping for fomal wear jewellery in Birmingham and everything I saw that was remotely Victorian also had bloody shells and scrap metal and... and barnacles strung to it. Gee, thanks PotC.
