joe has some motivational sayings & such here. this one is a favorite.
i think it's cool you're doing this, & sad that your friends aren't terribly supportive. i've been going to the gym here since may (which you probably know since you actually read my lj) & it's been pretty rewarding. i haven't started with weights yet since i have skeletal issues to contend with, but i've definitely toned up. we can go together next time you visit!
have you updated your diet yet? i notice a huge difference in my stamina on a daily basis if i eat well - i can run farther & faster on an apple than a piece of pizza. how would your body react with no soda in it?
I've changed what I eat, but mostly when I eat it. I've been watering down soda as an exercise drink -- Tour de France riders do that, so I figure they know what they're doing. The sugar's great for quick energy. I don't drink soda outside of the gym right now because of the propensity for that sugar to become fat.
In addition, carrots & celery have become primary foods for me. It's nowhere near high enough in protein, but they're helping keep my fat content low.
I've also started doing something that I never, ever, ever imagined I'd do. Eating meat with lettuce wraps instead of bread.

i love lettuce in lieu of bread. these days, i don't enjoy eating more than a slice in a day, so i'll often put a lettuce roof on a sandwich.
