Packing was a hassle; even though he knew he was probably only staying over for a night, he had trouble deciding whether or not to bring his school books. After some deliberation, he decided (reluctantly) that his paper did not absolutely have to be worked on tonight. Instead, he packed his copy of Tennyson's works and enough clothes for two nights, just in case (better to be prepared).
Not long after that, he was at Hotch's door, garlic bread in hand, trying to suppress the awkward butterfly feeling in his stomach.
"I know, Jack," Hotch answered, smiling to himself. "Come stand right here and tell me if the pots start to boil over while I get Spencer settled, all right?"
"Okay."
Wiping his hands off and tossing the towel to lay over his shoulder, Hotch looked through the peephole and, when he saw Reid, he deactivated his security system and opened the door. "Hey. C'mon in."
He'd had the time to change clothes into jeans and a T-shirt and he hadn't bothered with shoes, wandering around in socks instead.
It was completely bizarre to see Hotch out of his suit, and it took a moment for Reid to orient himself. Unless he was in his pyjamas, or for something formal, Reid usually sticks to the same dress code.
He smiles and waves a little, slipping inside, already feeling intrusive. "Thanks again. I brought the garlic bread -- I hope I'm not late? I forgot to ask what time dinner was -- "
"No, you're fine. Jack's not gotten to test the noodles yet, so we still have time." The door was locked and security system armed after Reid entered - he wasn't going to chance anything. Not anymore.
"We're gonna watch How To Train Your Dragon," Jack announced from where he was standing in the doorway to the kitchen.
"It's his favourite movie - followed by Wall-E," Hotch informed Spencer.
