We had to analyze Eliza in one of my computer classes. I recall looking for words that started with "no" that weren't negative just to check that the key string was "no".

Interesting that your Eliza wasn't rotating through a set of phrases, because I also recall babbling to it in French just to see how Eliza would react to stuff that was unparsable in English. I think there was a four phrase repeat: something like "How interesting", "Tell me more", "Can you elaborate on that?" and "Please go on".
