Top 10 TV Shows of '10: Number 8

Dec 02, 2010 10:33

I have a feeling that people who don't watch my number 8 show will scoff at its inclusion, but believe me when I tell you that it deserves to be on this list. Back me up, people in the know!

List So Far:

10. Spartacus: Blood and Sand
9. Lost

8. The Vampire Diaries

If you told me a year ago that The Vampire Diaries would make it anywhere near my personal Top 10 list, I would have excused myself so I could go roll on the floor and laugh my ass off. Yet much to my surprise, a series that started off as little more than a guilty pleasure soon morphed into a thrilling roller coaster ride, often packing more gasp-inducing twists into a single episode than most shows manage in an entire season. Creators Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec deserve much credit for turning The Vampire Diaries into a show that moves at breakneck speed without ever sacrificing intimate character moments. They also deserve credit for ensuring that every single man who walks on screen is insanely hot, but that's just an extra perk.

The brilliant way this show is paced -- moving from cliffhanger to cliffhanger with lightning speed -- has many people wondering if the writers will burn through all the good stories in a season or two, leaving the series to limp through its final years as a dried out husk. That's a legitimate concern, but at this moment The Vampire Diaries is firing on all cylinders, so why worry? Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
