The British Are Coming!

Jan 26, 2011 09:08

The Brits are taking over our airwaves, run for your lives! The past couple weeks have brought us three American remakes of acclaimed UK shows (Skins, Shameless, and Being Human), plus the kick-off of Showtime's Episodes, which is an American show about an acclaimed British show being remade for American television. Confused yet? I certainly am, as ( Read more... )

I can't even bring myself to watch the US skins. I mean, why watch a watered down version of something you've already seen?
Being Human...while I do like the UK version I can't say I'm mad about it, I do know I don't care for the actors that were cast for the US version. I LOVE Shameless, never seen the original either but I think the UK version has about 7 seasons so far....can't be bothered.
Episodes has CANCEL written all over it. I don't even have to watch it to tell.

Considering that the UK Skins brings in all new actors and characters every couple years, I feel the US show should have done the same. If the actors were playing new characters, and the show was airing on a network that allowed for swearing and nudity, it might have been good. As is, it's a disaster.

I like Being Human so far...not sure if I love it yet. I only saw a smidgen of the original to notice that it was very similar to the first episode of the new version. lol

From what I know about Skins, I'd probably love the UK version. XD

I hope the rumors aren't true about them making a US version of Misfits. It'll suck. It'll be an even lamer version of Heroes. o_O

The Inbetweeners is another UK show I love that I've heard they're remaking. Like Skins, it involves a lot of teenagers swearing and being naked, so I'm sure the US version will cut all that out and be terrible. OH BOY.

I'm not always against remakes. Shameless and The Office are pretty great, but those seem to be the exceptions.

I love the US Office. I couldn't get into the UK version. I think it was too dry for me or something. lol That and the more I see of Ricky Gervais the more I don't like him.

I'm the opposite with Ricky Gervais, as I'm obsessed with every single thing he's ever done...lol. His sensibility is definitely different from the US Office, though. I think that's what makes it a good remake.

I've only seen Episodes, and prepare to be shocked. I agree 100% with your assessment. If I didn't read it was only 7 episodes, I'd give it up. But then I gave up on his ex-Friends costar Lisa Kudrow's show before it got to the good part, so I'm sticking with it at least one more episode.

That said, the whole "tourette's syndrome" outburst cracked me up.

I sort of want to see Shameless and Being Human, but I really don't want to add any more to my schedule.

Yeah, if Episodes didn't have such a short season I'd give up on it too. I've heard the last couple episodes are better, so might as well stick with it and see how it goes.
