A Trip to the Doctor (Fic for sands-in-mexico)

Jan 15, 2011 15:02

Sandra sat in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, fidgeting anxiously. The doctor was running late, and she just needed to know. She’d been feeling sick to her stomach, off and on, for a few weeks, and she just knew something serious was going on. She didn’t get nauseous, not often. And never, ever lasting this long.

Finally, she got called back into an examination room. The doctor asked a few questions, got a thoughtful look on his face, and sent her to get some blood drawn. And so, she was left alone in the little room for several seemingly interminable minutes while he looked over those results.

Her nerves were practically shot to hell by the time he came back, still looking thoughtful. “Mrs. Bennet, I have good news. Well, hopefully.” He flashed a wry grin. “While this is a serious condition, it’s rarely life-threatening. I’d like to work carefully with you on this, though, given your age.”

“Condition? What condition?” Sandra suddenly felt like she was going to vomit again. Lord, this wasn’t happening. She’d always been healthy. She didn’t want to have a ‘condition.’

The doctor chuckled softly. “Sorry, Mrs. Bennet. You can stop worrying. You’re perfectly fine. Just… pregnant.”

Sandra stared at him blankly. She could have sworn he said… “I’m what?”

“Pregnant.” He placed a hand on her shoulder, smiling. “Congratulations, Sandra.”

Her eyes slowly moved to focus on her stomach. Pregnant. She was… pregnant. She’d always wanted… but she’d given up hope when Noah… Oh, Lord, how was she going to tell Sheldon? They hadn’t discussed… this. They’d only been dating a few months. This was too soon. Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord.

She let out a soft sigh. Well, what was, was. And she wasn’t going to let anything ruin this for her. As much as she loved Sheldon, if he wasn’t ready for this, she was willing to let him go.

Not her child. She could live without a man, but this child, a child of her own body… she couldn’t miss this opportunity. And if nothing else, she would always, always be grateful to Sheldon for this.
